Working Tower-Mounted Balista

Hey guys,
I'm finally back in my brick domain so I thought I'd upload a few things I'm pleased with. This is a working balista I created, the only problem is the Balista bolt/spear rotates a bit in flight but the set up does have a 5ft range!

This is actually pretty cool. A little thick, but nice for some kind of fantasy armoured war ballista... almost makes me wish I had more spring legs! Great range, too.

This is really quite cool. As mentioned above a little thick, but I do like some of the details you included. The usage of minifigure legs is excellent.

Very impressive balista! I have to say that I have never found any use for the spring legs. Very clever!

Thanks for the feedback all. Yea I have to say that's my only beef is the thickness as well. I did initially have a static one up there, but with all the firing elements of the current castle series I thought I'd give it a go. It was loosely based on 7090 Crossbow Attack http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7090-1 as I was looking for the smallest firing element Lego had for base idea. Also spring elements seem really limited, but if anyone has any smaller elements in mind let me know .

Very clever parts use! And kudos to you for the build, I've never been good at the mechanical stuff like that. I did a bricklink search and the only small spring part I thought was even a possibility was this one but if I remember right it was a very weak spring, so probably wouldn't give any sort of resistance to your rubber bands. Besides, it's not that much different size-wise from the legs you used.

This is probably the all time best use for spring legs. Do you mind if I attempt this design ( with slight modifications where I see fit) for one of my mocs? I promise credit where credit is due

I have to thank ebay for that. All I did really to get the cogs working was an ebay search for "lego springs," and nba legs were the first thing to come up. And after a little bit of thought, and a week for shipping, my balista was born.
