I also liked Bionicle. I'm not as big a fan of the newer ones. The old masks don't fit the new figs, and the story seems to be passing too quickly. But I think I will miss it somewhat.

Ok oldies, Bionicle was awesome. When I was younger, I couldn't build, then Bionicle came out. It was like the most awesome action figures that you could customize. The fun that it brought was immense. Goodbye Bionicle...

While I'm not going to lose any sleep over this theme's passing, it's still Lego.

Of course my son really really really likes Bionicle so he's a bit steamed about it... :orc:
I agree. My son uses Bionicle parts in his mocs whenever possible, especially the weapons. He also likes creating unusual creatures out of the parts. But, like you said, I won't lose any sleep over it. I don't like having to waste my Lego budget on Bionicle. I'd rather get him the Racers... just wish he'd quit applying the stickers... I could use those parts for building.

I'm very far from being a fan of Bionicle, but I don't get why some of you are so overjoyed to see it go. For one thing, I agree with the comment that it's a good introduction to serious Lego building for kids - my 5-year-old son included. For another thing, please remember that Bionicle was one of the two top-selling lines (along with SW) that saved TLC's neck back in the days of financial mismanagement in the beginning of the 00's. So: thank you, Bionicle.

And also: let's hope for something better. This:
At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January.
...is apparently the BEN 10 franchise, which is NOT the new Bionicle, according to the original quote.

I am sad that the sets are ending. I think Bionicle was a really great theme. I enjoyed it very much. Well I still will enjoy the one's I own currently. The story will continue which is good. The theme replacing it is not Ben10. Only the Lego company know what is replacing Bionicle.
It better be something good or I'm really going to be upset.

Like most of you guys here, I am fairly happy to see it go, but it was what got me into Lego, so it had sentimental value to me. BUT, the years 2006-2009 were the best years of any Lego theme! :) Ever, ever, ever! :) Ben 10 better not replace it though! I nearly puked watching one episode.

 NOT! BYEONICLE! The first years weren't too bad though, I have two of the original McDonald"s Tohunga! The green one and the blue one.

Thank Goodness that Lego's getting rid of Bionicle. It was such a disaster.
I remember being in Tesco in November looking at some Lego City, there were two Ladies on my right, they were looking at Bionicle. One of them turned to the other and said "Is this Lego?", they said "I don't know". So the Lady turned to me and said "do you know whether this is Lego?", I said "yes it is", She said "Oh it looks nothing like it but if its Lego then my son will be happy".
I'll emphasise what the Lady said 'IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE LEGO!'. To be honest I feel sorry for her son.

I'm just glad that Lego's getting rid of Bionicle, they might put more of their money to better, origional themes. :D

Not sure what you mean. From my understanding, Bionicle has been a huge success and has been highly profitable. If it was a disaster, I doubt it would have been around this long.

It was a disaster for my personal tastes and the KK series, sorry for the confusion. :)

I've had lego well before bionicle was released. That said: When Bionicle first came out everybody wanted them. My mom bought me a few. And I used to like them, but after the newness wore off I really preferred regular lego. So why I know many people will be unhappy, I'm not to upset about it.

(Some points I'm bringing up may have already been said, but I'll repeat them anyway)

Bionicle was not my cup of tea, not by a long shot. I'm glad to see it go, but from reading the article, my take is that it refers to two different lines of action figure-types. One being the licensed sets (Ben 10, I assume?) and a new in-house theme.

I greatly disliked the Bionicles when they first showed up on shelves, but the line did produce a steady revenue stream for TLG when they desperately needed it a few years back. As several of you posted, it got many younger builders started with the beloved company before they moved on to regular-style sets.

And looking at the Ben 10 sets on Brickshelf, all I can think is "Welcome back, Galidor, because you were so successful the first time 'round."

My two cents.

Except Galidor was based on a two-bit show with a very short period of being interesting (like Lost).
Ben10 is a show that is extremely popular with children (and me), whom are the target of Lego. It's good to keep such things in mind. Themes like Ben10 and Bionicle are made for their playability, not their Legobility.

I was no fan of them, but both my son and daughter are. I thought they were a troublesome new type of building toy by Lego, nominally compatible, but not in any practical sense to me, especially as a castle guy.

Then Breann Sledge showed up at BrickFest 2007. I'm not link-literate enough to have the links, but search it and you'll see what blew us away. She almost single-handedly legitimized the line for me. I have found use for some pieces here and there.

So next up is a Galidor/Bionicle fusion? Swell...
