Prince of Persia sets - final pics and prices

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

Dano has been very diligent in posting new set pics to his Flickr, so all credit goes to him for noticing that the PoP sets are all now posted on Amazon to pre-order for April 1 release. Follow the links to Amazon for the ability to zoom in and look at details, plus another view of each set. I'm also linking to Dano as there are lots of comments there.

7569 - Desert Attack, 57 pieces, US$10.99 - Amazon, Dano

Image

At $11 this seems like a must-have to get the new turban pieces, that printed horse, new hairpiece and three new torsos. Also very interesting are the new piece that allows the hero* to carry two katanas on his back and the bush piece in dark tan. Those wrist weapons on one of the bad guys scream out Wolverine custom fig.
*I have no knowledge of the video game or movie, so I'm just assuming this guy is the hero and the other two are bad guys.

7570 - The Ostrich Race, 169 pieces, US$19.99 - Amazon, Dano

Image

Okay, this one seems silly to me, but maybe this is some key scene in the movie. I'm guessing, though, that it's more appealing to the younger set. Yes, the new animals are nice, and since there are two in this relatively cheap set I can see someone building an ostrich army. Turban in dark tan. Bare chested torso, but fleshy, two other new torsos. Otherwise not a lot.

7571 - The Fight for the Dagger, 258 pieces, US$29.99 - Amazon, Dano[url]

In addition to that new helm, the turban in white, various new torsos and new female hair, look close and you'll see a new dagger. To me, though, that doesn't look very LEGO-y, just IMO. The thing that jumps out is, of course, the camel. Looking closer, this looks like a treasure-trove of architectural elements, with 12 or 14 of those new half arches, that new gold dome, a handful of cheese wedges and 1x1 brick with the stud on the side. I guess that canopy is also a new cloth element. Dano's got a great closeup of the new arch piece here.

7572 - Quest against time, 506 pieces, US$49.99 Amazon, Dano

Image

To me, this is the big disappointment of the line. Lots of dark bley slopes etc I suppose, so good for basic castle building, plus six of the half arches, two lion head bricks in a new color, and those 2x2 tiles with one stud. I'd get the Fight for the Dagger, though, and just pay the Bricklink mark-up for the unique fig in this set.

7573 - Battle of Alamut, 821 pieces, US$79.99 - Amazon, here on fbtb's Flickr (not sure why it's not in Dano's stream)

Image

As you can expect from the big set of the line, this has tons. Lots of those new arches, also in white (please, LEGO, can we get some in normal tan? how about the grays?), 7 figs, camel, three of those new helms plus one turban, wolverine claws, lots of bricks etc. Hmm, it looks like that dome from the Fight for the Dagger must be in four sections rather than one piece, since here we see it expanded with more curved bricks. The design is nice - the two side walls can swing forward on hinges to make one long flat wall with the gate in the middle, with a separate keep, or the walls can swing back and attach (though) the keep to make a square fortress.

Overall thoughts: This line looks great. Lots of new figs, with varied headgear. Camel and new arches look very useful. Other new elements maybe not as useful for me personally (dome, ostriches, wolverine claws), but I can see where those will be popular. I hadn't really mentioned the colors much - lots of tan, dark tan, dark brown, brown and that new rust(?) color. I do hope we see those arches at least in the more common colors, so they can be incorporated more smoothly into MOCs. I anticipate buying the small set and the Fight for the Dagger (maybe a couple of these), gazing longingly at the large set every time I walk past the LEGO aisle, and probably paying Bricklink markups for some of the other figs.

Hey, those half arches you wanted in gray? They're in HUGE abundance in set 10211 in the front page of Eurobricks.com. In all, 2010 is a construction element and ethnic variety win-win situation. Now, if only the prices we're less of the 2010 and more of the 2000 variety. I guess we can't have it all, can we?

Not much of interest here for me except the camel and the ostrich figures... The fortress is pretty impressive (and it contains a black minifig!), but I think I'm just gonna let it pass, as it's pretty expensive as well...

I used to think it was silly, too... until I searched for "Ostrich racing" on YouTube! Soon after that I thought it was hilarious!

I think I'm going to buy (at least) 1 of those ostrich race sets and make ostrich cavalry.. MWAHHHAHAHA!! :eyebrows:

Holy cow! Thanks for pointing that out. I count 22 in light gray plus 4 in tan in that set. Hopefully this will become the new element that gets sprinkled though tons of sets this year.

Overall I like the line. I am not sure how useful the figs will be for my lego castle world. I need a closeup of the torsos to check them out.

There are parts that will be useful in every one of the sets most of which Bruce has touched on.

I am digging the white plume in 7571 The Fight for the Dagger. This is our first new white plume! I like the new helms. Should make for a nice faction for castle. The gold cones that are in abundance in 7573 Battle of Alamut are a rarity and have been selling from 30 to 50 cents a piece on bricklink. That dark tan bush is a must have in the hundreds for me. I hope to the LEGO gods that it shows up at the pick a brick wall sometime. The new animals are pure win for me. The only hard part about this line will be replacing all of those fleshie hands, arms, and heads.

Is anyone certain of the color of those half arches in the sets? It seemes there are a lot of pieces available in the large castle in that color but I don't know if it is dark orange or a new color?

Did anyone see a lot of flesh at the necklines in the torsos? I am hoping not as it ruins their reusability for me.

10211 is a definate castle builders dream set for parts. I do not want to hijack this thread to discuss it.

Looks interesting. If I bought any, it'd probably be for the Eastern elements for making some Adventurers-esque stuff.

Thanks for posting.

Have you noticed the ostriches look kind of Duplo? Just look at those big heads with large shiny eyes... I wish LEGO went back to the custom of making little round holes in the animal molds as their eyes, instead of just painting them; it made them look much more brick-like. Of course, horses were an exception to that, but they are THE most important LEGO animal -- they're almost minifig status -- so I can forgive that. Their toes look wrong, as well; one of them is supposed to be much bigger than the other. But then again, that might have caused problems with sticking them onto studs.

It is also a shame neither the ostrich nor the camel can move its neck (or can they? Doesn't seem like it...).

But heck, I'm still going to buy 'em (at least the ostriches; I don't think a $29,99 set is worth getting solely for a camel figure...)! :halo: :P

...And if you think ostrich cavalry is a bad idea, this man from late 19th century USA would agree with you!

I like 'em, but the Disney and the dude there looks like blatant marketing to me. This doesn't seem like a LEGO line, but more of a Prince of Persia product, if you know what I mean...

In strange places of the Earth (like California), there are Ostrich farms. What product to the farmers sell from them? Eggs, you'd likely say... but you'd be wrong. They sell the whole bird to the butcher. Apparently, ground Ostrich meat tastes just like ground beef, and has almost no fat whatsoever. So, in 2010 my LEGO farmers will be experimenting in Big Bird Burgers. :tasty:

I know exactly what you mean... I would rather have a theme simply called "Persia", instead! That ugly dude has no place on a LEGO box! Shoo!! Get off of it!!

They look good, maby some figures that could be used for Turkish Troops in a crusades MOC but the price is pretty high on them.

Something interesting that I noticed was that the skeleton in the smallest set is the old style with the ball-&-socket style shoulder joints. I suppose that does make more sense, since the skeleton in that set is meant to be a limp dead body instead of a living-dead goon that walks around and holds weapons with its arms.

Is anyone going to buy The Fight for the Dagger just for the camel? I really want that camel, but to pay that much for a set that doesn't really have much besides it seems like... something I would do! ...No, just kidding. I mean, let's see, what have we got there:
- a camel (really the centrepiece of it all)
- two katanas
- 3 of those wooden boxes
- a knife
- a white robe
- 2 fish
- that dagger (who cares?)
- some food
- stairs
- a bunch of tan pieces (it's the new tan, though; it's not much different from the old, but still...)

Hmmm...

Wow, I am surprised, in a good way. Thanks for the reviews Bruce, there's not much I can add to that. Wonderful abundance of interesting parts, even though the set designs don't interest me much. And there's a set of Alamut, that place seems to pop up just about everywhere..
