Spoilers in the new LDD Universe Mode?

Post by Storm »

So, I recently downloaded LDD 4, and was playing with it when I noticed something odd; there were pieces that I had never seen before! Now, some of these might be just old pieces, but I saw:
A wheelbarrow
Some kind of short skeleton leg
A long bone
Spiky shoulder-guards
A new type of dog
New hair
Something called "Clergyman's Headpiece" that looked more like a helmet
A dragon body-legs-feet-lower jaw thing
and a new dragon lower jaw (With a beard!)
Soo... What do you think? Has LEGO accidentally leaked new pieces? Or are they just older ones?
I guess we'll find out next year...

I think it is important to realize the source you are taking this information from, it is a video game. Does that mean those pieces will exist? Maybe or maybe not. I'm not even going to venture to guess if they are our not possible new items. I believe the software company who made the game was not a division of TLG.

I believe he is talking about Lego Digital Designer, not Lego Universe.

I've heard these rumors too. But from what I've seen in prelims and leaks, it looks as if most of these are pretty common knowledge by now. But it's nice to know we can have a first hand look at them in LDD, thanks for sharing! :) I might have to actually download LDD 4 just to see these new pieces.

Can someone who has this post images? It will be interesting to see if these are actually pieces, or if they are simply virtual.

I believe you can only see those pieces by unlocking the LU theme in LDD. I'll have to double-check when I get to my home computer this evening.

Hey,

I don't know anything about LU. Can you use LDD to build things that you can then import into your virtual LU world? If so, it suggests to me that these may be virtual-only elements.

That is a good question. I haven't found a way to put LDD creations into LU.

Basically, LU has a concept of owning "properties" that are places for players to build/place LEGO items found during game play.

One of the available modes is a free build mode that offers similar functionality of the LDD experience. The random LEGO pieces you get while playing the game can be built and colored into whatever creation you want.

I am under the impression that the LU theme in LDD is the entire (virtual) brick set from the game. It would be nice to be able to view your LU player's brick inventory in LDD for offline "proof of concept" building... but I don't think that connectivity currently exists.

I have the new version of LDD, but not the Lego Universe game. It shows none of the pieces you describe, but I am not doubting your claims. I have seen advance images of new pieces for unreleased sets and a few of your descriptions are fairly accurate. I will check the LEGO website on the possibility that the Lego Universe game provides an additional patch for LDD.

The LU theme for LDD is not officially supported by LEGO. Search Eurobrick.com's LDD forum for instructions on how to unlock it.

There is an interview of one of the LDD 4.0 team members there too. The last question of the interview gives me hope about my question of import/export from LDD to LU... Answer: "It isn't planned, but under consideration" :)

Just to clarify:
Go here to unlock Universe mode- http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.p ... opic=40794
Universe mode is a tool that lets you use ALL of the bricks LEGO has made. I discovered the new bricks while playing with the LDD 4.0 Universe mode. Any other pictures of the new pieces would be much appreciated.

I got Universe mode working. I have Windows Vista, so, it took a few extra steps. The "Clergyman's headdress" is from the Indiana Jones Mola Ram figure. Yes, some of the items on the LDD are unrelased pieces. I noticed a few pieces that looked as if they came from Scala or Clickits. Plenty of new items, and a color pallet that goes beyond the normal range. There is even a cypress tree! I am quite happy with this new tool.
