Falling Snow Effect

Post by Siercon and Coral »

I wanted to try out a design to get snow in three dimensional space, without using photoshop snow, or fishing wire. I tried playing only to a single point of view. Every white rod, horn, and joystick is pointing towards the lens at varying depths to try to simulate snow falling around the girl. So.... If you look at exactly this point, here is what ya get! :D

Imagine what it looks like from other perspectives! Friends thought she was being tortured, skewered, or shot at. But hey, modern art?

The snow effect looks quite good, it's an interesting idea but what really attracts me here is the use of plumes and things to create the snow on the tree, which looks really amazing. Overall, a very nice seasonal scene!

The snow looks good, but the tree is the best part.... :eyebrows:

Very interesting! I've never seen that done before. I'm going to echo everyone else, the tree is the best part. Well done!

That's pretty neat; what are the chances of showing us an image of it from above? The dark blue night sky looks really nice but what really is tripping me out is what appears to be a dark (bluish) grey technic half pin holding some of those rods on the castle. :spin:

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.

I can only echo what everyone else has said. The effect looks great! But I also appreciate the use of plumes and stuff for the snow on the tree; I've wanted a good way to do that for quite a while now, and this is just what the doctor ordered.

That is a great effect. I would have never thought of doing that!

The dark blue is especially nice in bringing out the snow.

Sure! Here's another angle. If the piece you're talking about is the icicles on the corner, it's a 1x1 5 stud next to 2 hollow studs

Thanks for all the comments! It was fun to build :D

Brilliant work. The snow on the tree, in the air and on the ground are fantastic ideas that are a valuable technique in the future. Thanks for the post!

I'm dazzled by all this snow! That's a very good technique, kudos to you for discovering it. I also like the lamp posts.
