CCCIX Celebration Entry - Michaelmas

The Michaelmas Treaty and Celebration

After returning from his trip to San Kastel, The Crown King called a meeting with Gorang, leader of the Bear Claw Clan. They met before the annual Michaelmas celebration and agree to a peace treaty between their people. The King then offered Gorang free reign over all others in the realm under the protection of the Crown. With this new treaty, the King hopes that the Bear Claw Clan can weaken the new factions without risking his own men.

After the treaty was signed, the celebration kicked into high gear. The Crown men enjoyed the entertainment, although it seemed a bit foolish and wasteful to Gorang and his advisor.

For those who do not know this holiday, which included me until a few days ago, here is the description from MedievalTimesNet.com: Michaelmas or Feast of St. Michael the Archangel occurs on September 29th this feast was held at the end of the harvest and agricultural season. It is also the day on which all rents, monies owed and accounts outstanding were paid. At this feast there are the appearances of the "horn dancers" which were a troupe of men wearing or carrying sets of deer antlers who would dance accompanied by drums and pipes. This tradition traces back to the ancient custom of celebrating the hunt.

Enjoy!

Wow, good entry! I have never seen that roofing technique done on that large of a scale. It looks really nice. Overall, the architecture is great and there really is an exciting atmosphere to this moc.
You would rather be building right now.

Thanks! It took almost every 1x4 reddish brown tile I own to get the roof done, but I like the end result. I really wanted to show the celebration contrasted against the tax collection, with the window having such different meanings depending on which side you are on. Glad you like it!

Nice job, especially the contrasting views of the celebration. The stained glass windows are very nice, as is the floor pattern of the hall. Well done!

The crown designs in stained glass is astounding. Also the stone faces (all different!) on the arches outside are awesome!
Love this MOC very much!

Very beautiful. The whole roof and walls section is lovely, as are the celebration and the collection. Oddly, I noticed that this is the first time I've seen the mill village raid villagers together with the MMV ones, despite owning many of each. The antlers must have been a difficult build, considering that there are (still  ) no lego deer. I also love how out of of place Gorang and his second look, its just silly seeing two shirtless barbarians in the midst of an ultre frivolous celebration  . Good luck in the contest

Wow! Renaissance style Basilica. Gorgeous, very appropriate, and very accurate. The scene is lovely, too. Love those crownie-esque stained glass windows.

A great moc with a great table full of food. :tasty: Do the four faces have any corespondance to the four statues?

Tower of Iron Will - Thanks, the floor actually took the longest to figure out, I am glad it worked out in the end but it was touch and go for a while. The holiday is so odd since it is a celebration but taxes are due, so i wanted to play that up. Thanks again!

RadStar - Thanks so much, the glass took a while, but it is really cool when the sun hits it in the room and shines through.

Elbadar - The antlers were tough, and I had to do three different color because I did not have enough of any one design to do three. Gorang always looks out of place at social events, he is only comfortable on the battlefield! Thanks!

Wolfpack Boss - Thanks, I am an architect who loved this period of design, so getting to do it in LEGO is so much fun!

Hrvoje - Thanks, jut imagine how big the whole building would actually be!

Valendale - The do not correspond, but the finished statues inside and the ugly ones outside are a statement about the opulence versus the downtrodden. Sometimes I go deeper than I need to, but oh well! :tasty:

Thanks to everyone, glad you like it!

The cantilevering is very noticable to me, great work on the roof. Also the interior is very well done with the fig posing and the tiling. A great entry!

Very nice details on not only the roof, but also the stained glass windows, the flooring, and the details on the blinds for the windows. :)
Everything is awesome!
