I am with Josh and Bruce on this one, mostly on the fence. I like the idea of a Rivendale set, and the ideas are endless. However the price gouge will be epic, and flesh tone figs are a major turnoff for me. It is not the heads as much as flesh tone on the torsos that ruins them for me. We will have to see what they look like and how much they are, will they be a new Star Wars line, or just another Prince of Persia that gives us new colors but fades quickly?

Very intelligent, TLG. This is the way how you expand your pieces Universe, maybe I'll buy a few small sets for new parts.

Meanwhile, I'll save a lot of money hoping the falcons knights be released someday...

I second everyone on the new parts and molds. Alot of new potential. The downside is that some of these newer detailed minifigs make the older ones look, well...really old. They just do not blend well (if you plan to merge them into existing factions or casts). Oh well.

The LOR is so epic though that I am afraid, from what I saw with PotC, the Lego sets will be a let down. I loved the books and read them all many many times as a kid. I enjoy the movies also and watch them once a year around the holiday season. Can't wait to see the Hobbit next fall.

But, Lego has done a very decent job with another great line - Star Wars. Hopefully they can pull it off with the LOR! At least we get a few new Castle sets early next year and then something to look forward to in the summer.

Iam not very keen on this one, cause I have never liked the LOTR movies, books are great but movies suck(my opinion). But for new parts this isn`t a bad thing.
But TLG should continue a small line of castle sets by the side of this, not gonna happen but you never know.

I for one am also a huge fan of LOTR, but I don't really think this will be a huge success for Lego. They have already became too ambitious with all these new stuff,it just lost the essence of what it once was... Still I hope they will make something good out of it,or it will be just another of those short lived themes like Time Twisters?

I'm not that bothered -I found the books vastly overrated- but I am glad that it will finally silence all the fans that have been wanting elves for what, like the last ten years?

Definitely good news for castle builders all the same though I think.

I have to say that I am most excited about the new parts we should see from this line, but I have some serious reservations.

First, I hate the stubby legs. They need poseable stubbies or else this series is dumb.

Second, the LoTR settings don't lend themselves to small sets. There are no vehicles. There are impossibly large sets which make great dioramas but not really good playsets. Look at how long it took LEGO to make a decent Death Star playset, and when they finally did it it was a bit dubious and very expensive. Most of the action in LotR takes place outdoors. I guess there'll be lots of tree models? I feel that whatever they do it will be very difficult to do justice to the setting. The movie spent, arguably, all of its time on setting and it really shows. However, they had computers to add in whatever scenery they needed, whereas in Lego we'll have to imagine the bricks that aren't in the boxes.

Gollum: This fig could ruin the entire line if done wrong.

Crazy idea I'd love to see in this series: a Creator-style set where a box of parts can be used for more than one official model. The model(s) in question: a sculpture of Isengard and Barad-dur (and one other dark-coloured location: the black gate, perhaps?). Obviously it wouldn't be minifig-scale but it could still be really cool.

Also, I hope the orcs and elves can be easily integrated into normal mocs.

Interesting, if true. Assuming it is:

9469 Gandalf Arrives

Likely refers to the opening of "Fellowship", will probably include Frodo, Gandalf, a cart (vehicle!), and maybe a tree. This is the set in the $12 -15 rangeish, is my guess.

9470 Shelob Attacks

ROTK, Minifigs are Frodo, Sam, and (maybe) Gollum. A giant spider is a pretty good idea for a mid-range set, as the Harry Potter line showed. It also has the advantage of tying in closely with The Hobbit.

9471 Uruk-hai Army

This could be a couple different things from the end of Fellowship through Two Towers, but my guess is either the Breaking of the Fellowship (Minifigs are Uruks, Aragorn, and/or Boromir), or the flight towards Fangorn (Fellowship minifigs are captive Merry and Pippin.)

9472 Attack on Weathertop

Another decent choice for transferring Lord of the Rings scenes to playsets, as the Weathertop ruins are self-contained and easily suggested with few bricks. Minifigs will be Frodo and a Ringwraith for sure, and depending on the size of the set, may also include (in decreasing likelihood) Aragorn, another Wraith, Sam, more Wraiths, and Merry & Pippen.

9473 The Mines of Moria

One contender for the "flagship" set. Will probably include whatever members of the Fellowship aren't in any other set.

9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep

Basically the same, though we'll likely get a Theoden fig, and maybe a Haldir, too.

9476 The Orc Forge

OK, this I have no real idea, though it sounds like something out of Orthanc - maybe we'll see a Saruman minifig? If so, id be nice if this was on the smaller side.

Overall, I'm seeing a heavy emphasis on scenes from Fellowship, as well as scenes with either Frodo or Aragorn, if not both. Not surprising, perhaps, given previous license lines. I think I am starting to warm up to the idea, though - lots of these sound like they could turn out quite well.
