yeah, at first blush I was not excited about these sets... however, after picking up a few of the smaller sets, I am really impressed with the minifigure detail... throw a helmet on them instead of their mask/head piece and they'll will be joining my fantasy ranks

I wasn't excited about this line when the first images started to show. But the bird figures have parts that I have wanted for a long time. Greek mythology fans will have wings. I passed on the croc sets, because well...while I have a use for it...the rest of the set was just not making me happy. I guess like with the Ninja Turtles, I shall be bricklinking the parts I want and staying far away from the sets.

The sets do look rather childish, but I can see their appeal. The flying vehicles in particular portray their base animals pretty well. Also, I like the new wings.

Lego is for children But in serious I do know what you mean. I am a huge fan of the mini figures of this series but the sets are a bit ridiculous

It seems that y'all have pretty have pretty much said what can be said. Here's my two cents anyways:
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that Lego has even created this line. I'm not yet sure if I like the overall look of these sets. I'm not the biggest fan of how the minifigures look, they just don't have that classic LEGO feel which I like, but I guess LEGO has to spice things up somehow. Who knows, maybe I'll eventually get use to them. Though I probably won't be buying many of these sets, (if any at all) I most say that I'm quite pleased how TLG threw in some different colors then normal, it's always nice to have good changes. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the Ninjago styled game type sets though. The spinners from Ninjago were fun for awhile, but the excitement didn't last for too long. I have actually never tried out the Chima motorbike vehicles though, so my opinion could be proved wrong. I have to say my favorite thing from this line would have to be the new wing pieces. They'll definitely be great for dragons and such.
So overall I'm not the biggest fan of these sets, but I'll give them a try anyways.

If you remove the game element, do the sets remain 'playable' or do you end up with a bunch of premoulded pieces that stick out of, rather than being assimilated into, your existing lego pile? And if that's the case, then they may as well be 'playsets', rather than err... building sets.

That said, there are some interesting looking pieces but I think I'll just wait for some of the figure polybags to turn up, and generally avoid the sets.

In all seriousness, I hope they release minifigure packs. I do not want any of the sets, but I really like the bird people and some of the others.

After getting a better look at some of these, I agree most of them look really silly, but the raven and eagle sets actually look pretty cool. I see some great parts with excellent drafting potental and some cool minifig potential.

And Rogue27 make me realize my dream of slaying Ming the Merciless will finally come true. DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!

I had always mentally grouped Legend of Chima with Ninjago, but I hadn't thought about why that is until I read this. You hit the nail on the head. These are primarily playsets rather than building toys. Disappointing.

Still want a bunch of bird people though!

Having received my two small sets of this line and built them (I wanted the bird guys!). I can say the builds are solid. Kids will eat this stuff up...and since they are 90+% of the market, then that explains it. Its fun. Kid plays to comic/cartoons. Kids love animals. Yeah this will sell, especially with the tv show coming out.

Now, I am disappointed that the wings are not neck wear attachments. I am not fond of the "connect it with a clip" that these are. It makes the idea I had for them look just plain clunky. I'm sure this was done for some reason beyond my grasp. But I would have really liked them to be like the wings from Pharaoh's Quest or like the wings on the collectible fig fairy. Sure the faces are cartoonish, but that's the draw. I don't want real bird looking guys. Birds in general freak me out...(long story involving childhood trauma and a sandhill crane)...I want them to look like they are costumed bad guys. The vehicles are great...but what the heck is with the use of like 100's of clips? There aren't many castle elements in these two sets. Unless! You plan on making an evil wizard turn a hero into a birdman in revenge! Or some awful experiment failed after trying to use magic to make men fly. Either way, they were worth the purchase. I might get a few more.
