Hi....
Just thought you would like a preview to my latest project which will appear in
the next chapter of Andrastavia....
This is an overall pic of the Norman Tower Castle with an outer defensive wall.
There is a small village next to the wall along the stream which flows out to
the river. There is also a Tithe Barn near the jetty.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=950578
This next shot is of the small village shops with a baker... cloth merchant..
Tavern... etc... it fronts a little dirt road which runs along side the stream
that runs alongside the outer castle wall.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=950577
The Next Chapter should be coiming soon... so stay tuned....
Also, my custom sets will be up for sale again soon too....

Looks great as always Kev, and it's great to see you building actively again. You really set the bar.
Though I have to wonder, is that new light grey, or all those megablocks you own in that castle?
I seem to remember a conversation with you a long time ago about Megablocks being good filler, and I can't find a real good argument against it when you point to the stuff you build.
Can't wait for more.

I JUST saw this on BS.... DUDE! I love this tower. Does it open up? are there more details inside? if not, I dont care, because its just beautiful on the outside. I love the way you have the arches coming out of the corners/upslopes, giving it a nicely detailed look under the overhangs on the corner towers.
Overall its very pleasing, the large windows are a surprise, (I know they had them, You just dont see them in MOC's very often) ...
I also like the street shots, and the hustle/bustle of a fully thriving village!
My only complaint is that this is a preview, and I want to see all the way around this keep.

Thanx for the great comments... I'm glad you like my work.
OK.. to answer some questions....
There are mega bloks in it yes... mainly 2x4 bricks to bulk out the walls, as they are alot cheaper and great for walls. Added with the different aged lego bricks... some around 20 years old, it gives a great realistic effect. When I was living in England, and had to walk past many a castle or cathedral wall, I noticed, there isnt any definate main colour, as all the bricks and stone are different...ranging from sand... to tan... to dark grey... white.. and a slight greeen!!! The details are all lego though, as it is far more supperior for detail than mega bloks. Also, it dosnt worry to use other types of bricks other than lego... its all about the building and the end result isnt it after all...
Yes there are full interiors of all the buildings... shops... castle buildings.. and the tower it's self... The whole tower splits down the middle... and reveals a realistic design of most Norman Towers... mainly x2 sections.. each on different levels... 4 levels including the cellar... except the great hall which covers x2 floors with vaulted ceilings.. where the large windows are. Below the Great Hall are x2 roms, one for the Receiver General.. whom collected texes and paid wages etc. There is a kitchen.. with baking oven and fireplace, with sage, herbs and pots hanging from the ceiling, a war room... and lords bedchamber all accesed by a spiral staircase..on the other side.
In the Cellar, under ground, is the storage, a well, a Postern (secondry exit) and the dungeon.
Along the outer defensive walls, are a few half timber buildings housing the gaurds barraks, the stables... and the black smith. There are x2 secondry entrances, one leading to the river, and one at the back of the castle. The walls are all 6 studs wide, and where the stream passes it, it reaches around 4 storeys high. The main entrance is down a sloped stone walkway from front courtyard, through 2 doors and a working drawbridge, which the opening and lowering workings are housed in the room above the gatehouse... which has a hinged opening for acces on the back. or can be totally removed.
The lay of the land is sloped down as you move away from the river, the original tower was built here overlooking the river, and the wall built around it later, then came the small village shops. The Tithe Barn sits on the edge of the river for storing items from ships, and also has a cellar which canbe accessed. heading down the hill alond a dirt road, are th shops. A rich cloth merchant is inthe first building, with his living quarters above. A small candle shop is on the lower level. Next to it is a baker, with a nice big red bread oven. Next is the Tavern, 3 stories high, there are x2 rooms in the attic. with another 4 rooms on the middle level. on the ground floor is the tavern. There is a little courtyard at the rear for delivering the barrels of beer. through a little alley. On the corner is two small shops divided by the small alley, and ontop of these is the town guild, where one can register to learn a trade.
At the end of the road, is a stone fountain, where ppl can collect water for drinking. Heading off behind the back castle wall is a path that leads to a stone bridge crossing the stream. Along here is a small farm where crops for the castle are grown, including some fruit trees. A path also leads to the back gate.
I'm currently working on more photos to post, with detailed shots of everything... so stay tuned and also Chapter 4 is written and in the process of photography too. As well as more custom sets.
Have fun....

good to see your keeping up the good work! How far did your story progress in my absence (I think it was at chap 2 when I left off). Anyways great to see the same high quality continued.
God Bless,
Nathan
PS You still owe me a pic of the back of the village that you use as link pics on your site... (forgotten the appropriate Lugnet link...) if such exists... : ) !

Welcome to C-C Kevin. I have browsed your work before, but am not very familiar with it. This tower and village is simply jaw dropping! I love the scale of the tower, and all the little details that bring the village to life. THis joins the ranks of the top drawer big castles seen here. You ought to be very proud. I just love the village!
I have used MB as filler. About 5 or so years ago I stopped because the colors very odd and the quality was terrible. But with all of Lego's difficulties, maybe we'd all better get used to MB...
