IRONCLAD Space Frigate 34

Post by Loneranger »

Hey all!

I just got done taking pictures and uploading them of my IRONCLAD Space Frigate.

Some of you may be wondering what I mean by IRONCLAD.

Well, after coming back from BF04 I was inspired to make my own space theme. (Kinda like 3vil or PCS) So after awhile I started construction on my new space theme.

I asked Patrick Morgan to make this for me :)

This is the flag for the IRONCLAD's.

Ok, onto the Space Frigate.

After getting a few design flaws out of the way I started construction. (Hopfully i'll be able to mass-produce the Frigate)

This is the front of the Frigate, You can see the four barrel ION cannons on the top and bottem of the Frigate.

There are four quad-lazers sitting on top of each fin, three of them can fire at the same time at any direction at any time, if they are firing infront or behind them then all four of them can fire at the sametime.

The inside is small but the men don't seem to mind, there are only two tables that are usely used for sleeping or eating on them. Everything is opened up.

If you are wondering what those round shaped things are with the red tops. those are the torpedo's, one Frigate is allowed to have six of them on board with only six charges. The charges are separated from the torpedo's incase the Frigate was hit in those areas, it would not explode, blowing up the whole ship.

I hope you enjoy this space MOC as much as i did :D

Here's the rest of the folder with more pictures including the engine.

Your theme seems highly derivative of Keith Goldmans's Iron Reich

Your ship seems highly derivative of the work of Keith Goldman and Lenny Hoffman.

Good job, I guess?

This is a cool ship Justin. A little smaller then I had expected, but still very well done. I really don't know what tosay as the pics speak for themselves.

Now, while I'm not a huge spacer, I think that the whol;e thing would look even better then it is right now if you but little details on the sides and a bit more on the top. YOu know, things like 1x2 vents, ladder pieces, and other pieces that would make the ship look even more interesting.

Overall though this is a really nicely done MOC. Keep at it!

where does inspiration end and highly derivative begin? Personally I think a lot of space stuff looks the same, kinda like a lot of castles look the same. :D

I like this MOC Justin [1] although it puts me more in the mind of a submarine than a space ship.

[1] I liked Keith's and Lenny's stuff too :D

I was thinking the same thing about the theme. But I got it by reading a awesome book about Ironclads. Yeah yeah, Iron Reich IRONCLAD. Who cares?

and the ship design looks nothing like Lennys or Keiths stuff. Maybe you could explain why it does?

and Keith was very supprized by the design and really liked it :)

Oh I don't know... maybe this one

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=76526

and this one

Now, if it improved on those ships, that would be fine. But its not an improvement. Its an unimprovement, a disimprovement, a malimprovement, what have you.

Great looking stuff. The flag is a nice work of customizing.

I like the spaceship very much though as Freak said it kind of reminds me of a sub, not that this is a bad thing at all. I rally liek the way you attach the siding.

I must agree with Bricksidge in saying the design looks much Like lenn's or Keith's. This is again not a bad thing. That's what this while site is for. Sharing, taking, and sharing again advice and/or design ideas and soforth.

Overall great stuff here LR.

Well just about everything known to man (and some things not) have been done in Lego Space, so Its normal to for some MOCs to look similer in style to others, they may even have been inspired by other mocs. Does that make it a rip off? No.

In short, that is one of the better space mocs I have seen and I look forward to more of the same :D
