The best sets of 2004, come in and vote!

Post by Stingray »

The end of the year is quickly aproaching and the best sets of 2004 need to be known!.
So come on in and vote for your favorite, I have posted this to two other well known Lego fan sites in order to get the best and most varied results.
All you need to do is to copy and paste the list below into your post and then rank your three favorite sets of 2004.
(The only rule is that they must have been new sets of 2004.)
...
1.
2.
3.
...

Some-time early January I will add the scores gathered from all the different sites to find out the best sets of 2004.
The set in the first rank will receive three points, second gets two points, 3rd gets one point.
(Also it doesn't matter if you don't own a certain set you can still vote for it.)
(If you choose X-Pods please specify which one is you favorite, for example)
"1. X-pods, Aero-Pod"

Anyway to start it off here’s my favorites of 2004.
1. Hovercraft Hideout
2. Deep Sea Predators
3. Rebel Snow-speeder

We've had some great sets this year. And some not so great sets. Its very hard for me to say, because I've spent most of my money buying up last year's stuff on clearance. My nominations would be:

1. http://guide.lugnet.com/set/10152
I haven't even opened this one. It looks really great. I'm waiting for it to come out in the new color and then I'll put that one together.

2. http://guide.lugnet.com/set/10133
Again another one I do not have. This one looks very good too.

3. http://guide.lugnet.com/set/4562
This one is the Walgreen's set. It deserves a nomination for sheer value alone. Pick it up for the buy two get one deal, its just over $0.01 per brick. You can't beat that, even if the pieces aren't spectacular.

Other sets deserving a mention (but not a link) are: 4757 Hogwarts Castle (nice set for pieces, model wasn't substantial, ruined by new colors), 10134 UCS Y-Wing (I just don't do the UCS thing much, I like the minifigs), 10157 and 10158 High Speed Train (Nice way to get a train without having to shell out $150 all at once), 4504 Millenium Falcon (going to pick this one up tomorrow I think), 4754 Hagrids Hut (the roof is a nice example of how Lego does listen to use, hence the reason I keep harping on the color change, which this set is spoiled by too).

Well I think I've rambled enough,
Steve

Hello!

I like 4677 Name Letter Pack.
The designer sets with the several creatures (Deep sea, Dinosaurs etc.) are also nice though I don't own them.

Hey, that is cool. I've never seen it before... Where does one get ahold of it?

I haven't exactly kept up to date with the sets this year, partly because non of the castle stuff grabbed my attention and I'm not much into the "realistic" skin-toned minifigs (HP and SW). I honestly have no idea what has been released this year - my Lego purchases have been 2002 & 2003 sets on sale + a lot posted in Buy/Sell/Trade + a very large bricklink order (Troy from Canada [i.e. not the administrator] can attest to that).

This is why Megablocks are winning in stores. If Lego would release sets like those into the mainstream many retailers wouldn't push the Legos away.

If those three sets were not $75, $40, and $50, but instead $50, $30, and $30 they probably would do great at retail. Unfortunately, at the prices TLC charges, those sets would look bad next to MegaBloks Pro-Builder type stuff.

I have noticed that many of the high picks are not minifig-based sets. Most of the minifig sets were not very good designs this year aside from certain HP and STAR WARS sets. Unfortunately, the new colors make my stomach turn, or I would have voted for Hagrid's Hut.

Prehistoric Creatures got one of my votes because it has an excellent Price-Per-Part ratio, instructions for 9 models, and ideas for many more. The other two sets I voted for were simply very well designed.

BTW, the 2005 Town sets look the best I've seen in more than a decade. Hopefully the castle sets will be affected in a similar way.

1. The Maersk Sealand
2. Building Bonanza
3. KK2 Knight's Castle Wall

Honorable Mentions: The new Legend City Airport and the BNSF Freight Engine

Next year is going to be MUCH tougher to choose.

Yeah me too, I have been buying alot of Non-2004 sets before they disapear for good, I have also been Bricklink Shoppin.
And I found out just how awesome World City 2003 was for pieces.
The only Bley sets I have bought are ones that I really really wanted like World City ones and the X-pods.

Keep them votes coming guys and gals!
