Mega Bloks

Post by Anonym0us »

I don't have much castle lego, so I asked for more for christmas. But instead, I got 3 (about $60 each) Mega Bloks "Dragons" sets.

Since I don't have many lego castle sets, I'm not sure I won't to throw these out. (and I'm sad to admit I kinda like them)

Just kidding. Its Lego's fault that other people find that clone brands have better themes and sets. Had they not strayed from their path of great sets like back in the 80s and early-to-mid 90s, then they would have kept and gained more fans. Plus they would not be $400,000.00 short of their previous year's quota.

Visually, I think that Megabloks can be quite appealing. As a building brick, they lack the versatility or originality of Lego. I think Megabloks have succeeded where Lego has failed because many children have short attention spans, and would prefer the easier building system (this is probably why Bionicle is so popular). With lego, if you want a detailed model, you must construct most of the details yourself. With megabloks, most of the details are pre-fabricated with specialized bricks.

In many ways, it seems that Megabloks have become something of a hybrid building toy, mixing some of the features of Lego (versatility), with some of the features of Playmobil (detail). If your buying bricks for detail alone, Megabloks certainly stand out, but if your buying bricks for versatility, and the ability to create fantastic MOCs, Megabloks don't hold a candle to lego.

Later.
