That's nuts. There are several other sets shown there as well. Including another Jango's Slave 1, Boba's Slave 1, and a jedi starfighter. Some people have no shame.

It's bad, yes, but we also must realize that the majority of users on the LEGO website are children or pre-teens. At a glance most of the sets being claimed as 'creations' were all uploaded by 10 year olds (and a 12 year old).

Young people of this age lack better judgement, which is why there are laws preventing kids younger than 13 to join websites without their parent's consent (and resulting in CC's banning of pre-teens).

You should remember that the websites that we are familiar with, such as CC, FBTB and Lugnet, are populated by mature teens and adults, who understand just exactly what plagerism is, and how to give credit where it's due; that following the given rules is expected and there are consequences to their actions.

I'm certainly not shocked to see this sort of thing on LEGO.com - it's happened before and it'll happen again. Kids just want to be accepted, and one of those ways is to jump onto the scene with that 'wow' factor on their side. Claiming these as their own is their way of having that 'wow' factor. These kids either don't have the ability yet to build a 'wow' creation, or are too unaware to realize they can.

Of course there are those kids (and adults) who are the exception, who just want to pass off other people's work as their own, but in my mind as far as kids are concerned, flagrant plagarism is in the minority.

Of course there still hasn't been anyone to try an pass off my stuff as their own. I think I take offense

Tony said something about preteens not being able to join so I would say 13 and up is the limit.

That would be correct.

This was previously a rule set out in the Administrative forum, but not in an official thread. The rule has now been added to the ToS so that it is easily accessible to all involved.

Not only do some kids send in original LEGO sets as their own creations, but they also send in other people's MOCs. I once found a MOC of mine in the Cool Creations gallery on lego.com. Well, Casper found it and informed me and I informed lego.com.

It's kind of flattering, though :-)

Hey,

I've had my MOCs posted by others as well. They admins of LEGO.com are really cool, though. I pointed them to my website and gallery to prove that the pics were mine and they immediately removed the stolen images. I've notified them of images stolen from other AFOLs as well and they've always taken them down.

Actually, the building official sets doesn't really bother me. That's pretty much where we all started, and probably lots of us took pictures of these as well. In the caption he even refers to the instructions, so it's not like he's really claiming to have designed it.

My favorite was when an official Megablocks model was in the LEGO.com cool creations contest.

Well I know can kids can. It just takes alot of work and most don't want to do that.

For example, 2 years ago when I was 11 in the summer I took all my grey light grey bricks and sat down in front of pictures of an AT-ST for one week. I didn't do anything but build that whole week. This is what I came up with.
