The Horned King

Post by Sir Dillon »

Hello,
I've been reading the Chronicles of Prydain and trying to build figs latly, and this is supposed to be the Horned King from the first book:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=126755

Technically they're supposed to be deer antlers, but this was the closet thing I could think of.

Thanks to LegoFreak, Fry_Slayer, and Lord Mikal for giving me advice on how to do it.

Yeah, that was one series where I really whished the author had drawn a map. I was so confused about where they were and where they were heading...

Pretty good idea to glue the horns straight to a skull instead of trying to make it into a helmet. You sure you don't want to try and make the antlers? :D

How well are they staying on for you?

Thanks for the comments :D
Yes, the horns might look better if they were a little higher up, but it's a little late for that now :)

>Lord Mikal, I tried to use clay as the antlers and couldn't make it look right, but I'm open to suggestions

I've never read that series, but I really like the look of that fig! It looks really cool and somewhat evil... just to be sure... you cut a bull horns in half and glued them on?

I think I might try that for my story - it's sweet!

Sweeeet, but mignt be able to produce more interesting results if the horns are pointed more upwards

I really love that series of books!

That's a great Horned King. I think it rather fits the description. :)

As for your other Prydain characters:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=128770

I think that you've really got Taran. He looks like what I saw from the books. Great job! :D

Smoit is also quite good, and Hevydd is also quite good. I like Gwydion's hair, face, and choice of legs, but perhaps a different torso might be good. At which point in the books is this Gwydion from?

Eilowny's outfit is quite good - maybe a different head. Somehow the typical "smiling lady" doesn't quite fit her personality! ;)

Thanks :D
That version of Gwydion is supposed to be from the beginning of The Book of Three; when Taran first meets him and can't believe that he's a real prince because of his weather worn cloths. But I do see what you mean. Maybe I'll do a differant version of him also.

As for Eilonwy, that's the only lady face I own besides this one:
http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=3626bpb51
and I don't think that one fits as well as the one I have now.

Wow, you really have King Smoit down. He looks about ready to tear into his filthy vassals. Good job!

I guess that would work too, but I'd need to buy some of those horns, since I don't have any.
I'm not done making the chars yet, and I'm going to make a Fflewdder, I just can't get it to work right. But don't worry, he'll come soon. :D
