Little Gothic Moc

Heya guys, I'm not an active member here, i admit.. just came by to share some little MOC'ing, check it out
How's this? I have never seen this tactic of creating Gothic arches being used before actually, I wonder if nobody thought of it yet (can't be

), or if it's just too daunting to implement properly in a MOC

Very interesting. Cant say that I have ever seen arches used 'snot-wise' to form other arches. Looks very nice indeed. Same goes for the temple sample you made as well. I wonder though if you could make a mention of how sturdy a structure it is? Huge potential for church/temple use here, lets see if anyone has the bricks to build your ideas into an actual structure. OR do you plan on doing so sometime in the future? if so be sure to post it.

THAT is an AWESOME looking MOC. I feel rather challenged into making arches like that... and I will.

I agree - not only are the arches a great new idea, but the MOC in general is very well built - it definately gives a gothic feel, and it's full of nice details.

edit: I just saw you gave us a clue.. I guess I will try to figure it out on my own.

Hey Teup,

These are wonderful designs. I'd been meaning to post on this if you didn't. My favorite is probably the gray one:

The color scheme and the other greebly bits work a little better on that one for me. I'd love to see you expand this into a cathedral, or even just a small chapel.

Another thing I forgot to compliment you on is the 1 by x sand green roof. People have used flat pieces from roofs before. But I've never seen an inverted one before (I don't think). Looks great.

Like others have said. You should use that in a larger MOC.

I made the MOC's just pretty quickly on an afternoon, so I didn't bother to get reference material or anything; just wanted to give a quick demonstration of the arches idea. 12 width arches are very simple to implement, put two of them together and you have something that is 18 plates wide, add a tile on each side and the whole pattern is 20 plates wide, which just so happens to be 8 studs, which means the pattern (the gothic arch) can be repeated exactly every 8 studs - and everything will fit exactly and hold itself together. The 8 width arches are slightly more trouble, but I've already torn them down, maybe I'll rebuilt a part to show

But I'm sure you guys can figure something out yourselves. Yes, it is pretty solid. In height, the 8 arch is precisely 20 plates, the 12 one is 30 plates tall, so there too you can make them close up perfectly and have it supporting the structure.
You might want to try your luck on the 1x6 arch too, i already found out it's pretty much impossible to make a fairly compact pattern for that one.. perhaps for if you're building big fat fortified towers and you want to have a tiny little window here and there
