Threads like this one :P

Honestly, I think I was happier before my latest bricklink binge. The army I had wasn't much, but they were all "my" figures. It's not so personal now that I've flushed it out with a bunch of other peoples used helmets and torsos. Oh well, now I get to spend the next couple months spending frugally to fix the hole I just made in my savings. Bricklink + paypal is a power that promises much but ultimately leads to destruction.

My army consists mostly of knights from the original classic castle sets (375, 383 and 677). In total I have maybe 300 of them. In addition I have about 80 black falcons and maybe 30 forest men.

I bought many of them from ebay.de where I found prices were lower than on ebay.com and so I think I bought them much cheaper than I will be able to sell them eventually and then it wasn't really an expense. Prices seem to have gone up now though.

As for why I need them my joy from Lego comes from building BIG castles and they look much nicer when populated with minifigs. Obviously I don't need 400 for that but a castle can easily use a 100 and it's nice not to use the same faction each time. Also I hope to keep my castles built (or rather easy to rebuilt) and one day have them all up and then I will need 400 figs.

If one day I had loads of time (rather than none at all) I still might find it fun to play some kind of game with them like Brickwars. Then again it would be nice to have reasonable numbers within each faction.
Best regards, Infyrana

Well, a couple of lines later, you gave yourself the answer:

I still play with them (and no, I am not an underaged 13, but a fully graduated, legal in this province, 18 year old).

While my armies do not compare with all those 1000-2000-on-to-infinity man armies, I have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 300-350 standing troops in a Castle style.

They aren't quite all Castle figs... Unlike some, I have no compulsions about conscripting my Jedi, nor do I have the resources to do otherwise and have a comparable army- at least not yet.

However, I've been accumulating weapons, shields, and helms at a more or less constant (if a bit slow) rate since venturing into the world of Bricklink, and I'm almost at the point where I've eradicated hairpieces from all figs that I would prefer to see them gone from.

In any case, I think a large motivation for me is that as a much younger kid, I never had armies large enough. Especially of the bad guys. Now, I've actually got a bad guy army large enough that my good guys can go all out on the slaughtering, and still have a decent battle.

Sounds bloodthirsty, I know...

However, the simple fact is that I still (occasionally) play with my LEGO, and that I like the look of a big army. I'm really a more fig-oriented than a brick-oriented builder. I build in terms of figs....

MEGABLOCKS!!

I had no idea armies were in the range of thousands.

My "army" is about 60, including cavalry, and even then not all of the figs are castle - many conscripted from City.

Of course, I only became interested in Castle (around 2000, when I was thirteen and KK1 was released) after all of the good stuff was not being made anymore. I should have been born about twenty years earlier.

However, I believe that I can have as much or more fun with my 60-man army as those do with their 2000+ war machines.

You have to see the big armies in real life and then I'll bet you'd change your opinion. I used to have a lot of fun with 60 - 100 figs back when I was a kid, but I always dreamed of having more. If you see my post about my castle, you'd see why 60 figs just wouldn't do the castle justice. Trust me, more figs = more fun.

I have a full sized pool table in my basement that will be the shelf I will use to photograph my 2000 fig army. I am currently organizing and recovering from a serious bout of Ihavetobuythatitis on Bricklink. But I will be posting a teaser pic of a large piece of the army later today.

Ok, wlister, I believe you. I just said that to give myself some consolation, because, while I try to stay happy with my army, I'm always wanting to expand. I just don't have any money, because its all going to school.

So, unfortunately, it's going to take a long time to build up an army of your size. In the meantime, I'll drool over your pics!

WOW!!! There are some massive Lego armies out there! Very cool. Very impressive.

I have around 40 knights. The bulk of them are from my yellow castle and the old procession set from when I was a wee lad back when they were released. Recently I have gotten some KK2 sets.

As far as army building, I have no desire to do it. I would like, however, one of almost every set that's been produced for the castle themes. That would be a goal for me.

And maybe I'm goofy this way, but I seek only MIB Lego items. I want to be the first to open them up and build them.

Awesome eye candy here, btw! Thanks for posting pics of your armies.

Yeah Will, I checked your activity. An order every 2 -3 days there for quite a while. What does the Mrs. have to say about that? I thought you were on a cooling off period.

I can't wait to see your army though

I think that for some, myself included, we like having accurate looking armies. Not just in terms of minifig design, but in terms of believable quantities. Armies in real life ranged in the thousands, and with huge empires through out history like Rome, Persia, India, and China... they sometimes numbered in the hundreds of thousands.

For China, there's been times when their armies reached into the millions, even back during the time of their imperial dynasties. It was a million-man army invasion of the Mongol steppes that drove off the Huns and other tribes forcing them to move towards Europe.

So.... here's a pic of what two massive armies can look like in battle during the Ancient days. Rome -vs- Macedonia/Greece.

It was because of all these Castle Army things plus the game of Rome:Total War & Medieval: Total War... that gave me the idea for the "Battle Scenes" contest here in CC. Others however are now the ones running the show, but I still had the idea. :P

So far I've seen some awesome battle-scene creations, the largest being around 900+ with an orc army -vs- a dark sorcer army. Nice to see something different, evil -vs- evil. But I have yet to see anyone have two opposing forces that each have 1,000 or more minifigs.

I'd make one, but my armies are lacking in equipment which added up altogether, cost more than the minifigs themselves.
