TRU Closing Stores
Toys R Us is sluffing off nearly 90 of their stores, turning a few into Babies R Us. A thread in the forums on FBTB.net has a list of all the TRU stores closing down.

If any of the stores are near you, you may want to drive by and see what sales they may or may not be having. I know several are liquidating their inventory, so who knows.

Ooohh... sales
Unfortunately, as much as I can't wait to go down to Charlotte, I'm disappointed they're closing. One less store to go to

Respectfully submitted,

Supposedly the discounts will keep increasing until all of the Store's inventory is cleared, or when all those stores are set to close (Mid March), whichever comes first. The TRU in San Diego I wasn't surprised to close, as they don't get as much traffic as the other TRU's. Sadly, they don't have much in LEGO except for City Airports and the Ferrari Finish Line sets. Right now they are at 20% off. I tried to see if I can get some of the displays, but they are going to other TRU's in the area.

Oh, how I've longed for the day when a TRU would close. (Only because of the discounts, mind you.) So when one finally does, it's an hour away. Maybe I'll take a trip up in another month... The one(s) near me isn't closing, so I can still buy any exclusives they might have in the future.
Thanks for the info!

The closest one to me is closing (Bellingham, WA). I guess I didn't buy enough. Now I am going to have to go down by Seattle now.

Noooooooo! It can't be! They can't turn my beloved Lego supply store (the Anderson Toys R Us) into a STUPID Baby's R Us.
Please let this just be a rumor. Please let this just be a rumor.
I just bought some Lego their today ,Jan. 20, 2006. I mean in the last three months I've spent probably over $300 dollars on Lego there! And this is how they treat a loyal Lego consumer who buys (and bought) a lot of his Lego from there!
And the store is sooooo conviently close; only 30 - 45 minutes away from my house! The nearest Pick a Brick Store is at least 2 - 3 hours from my house - across the border in Georgia. A Walmart is about 10 minutes away but has the worst Lego selection ever whereas the Anderson Toys R Us had (has for right now at least) the best Lego selection I know other than the far off Pick a Brick store. My only other option for a great selection of Lego (that is close by) is just to order from Shop at Home! Grrrrrr... May the people who made this choice feel my telepathic rage over this stupid decision of theirs
.
Rant is over. Now just feeling a mixture of angry
and sad
.
I think I made need a get well soon card...
Hopefully I can recoup some of this loss by racking up on the sales resulting from this... sigh.

My TRU finally went to 20% off. I accidentally met up with some of the GatewayLUG guys also looking for deals. My brother bought the last Dino Helicopter set and I got the 2006 Airplane set. All of the Viking sets were very popular and sold out. There are quite a few nice sets still there like the Vladek Fortress, but prices still are not spectacular on these.

Yes, it is fantastic. I secretly also like townScnicker wrote:Why don't we have TRUs and stores like that over here?
I get so jealous when you guys talk about all the deals you got. Anyways, is the airplane set any good Ben?

Of course I got it 30% off since the box had been opened and retaped at TRU. The teenage clerk wouldn't give me a further 10% discount so I had to talk to the manager. TRU is trying to weasel every last dollar off of these closings. They even sold off LEGO's displays (which is probably not legal) but I was not around to get any. The Knights and Viking displays were nice.

My TRU are currently refreshing their supplies, putting everything in their supplies on sales... Unfortunatly I got there too late, and the only thing they got cheaper in Lego ways is duplo castle...
Im afraid this BRU problem might be in the works, half of the store is shut down for further resupplies.
