Mrs. Crusader picked up this set yesterday at TRU (Reading, PA). It was the last on the shelves. Combining the current 15% off coupon with the $10 gift card TRU was giving away last month made this a nice $24 purchase.

Personally it looks like a nice set. It won't be opened until Christmas morning by my boys. All of the new figs will be a welcome addition. All we currently own are two of the 4+ sets from a years back (shudders). Those horrid figs will be (finally) lost at sea now and the new pirate minifigs can take over their mediocre vessels.

hmm, I'm not completely convinced by the new pirate theme, the old one was great. but now it feels like we're getting rainbow knights all ower again!
but this time it's the bricks that are wierd colours!

I dont want blue boats, red ships and gold treasure-chests!
keep it real! thats what works for me!

I thought the coupon ended tuesday?

If it didnt, and i got my 7649 wo it.....grrrrrr

ok anyway moving back OT

Please define how pirates II is anything like KKII.
Do we have idiotic characters?
Set design based on 'constraction' figures?
Horse o pults?
Slammer powered fake jousting horses?

How is a dk blue boat bad, but the old red/orange boat good?

Nope– says right on the top of the coupon that it's good through 11/20 (today).

No doubt little kids get more excited over gold chests than wooden ones, and I'm sure most treasure chests weren't painted gold.

However, it is certainly more realistic to have vessels that look like they are painted. It near impossible for unfinished wood to survive in a nautical setting. Typically wooden ships were in a constant state of painting. So blue and red are perfectly accurate for colors.

Given how many of us with older collections are somewhat drowned in brown ones, I'm excited to add gilded chests to my parts on hand.

On the topic of chests, are the chests in the pirates line the same color as the one in 7622? BL says no, but they sure LOOK the same?

Could be the base material is different? I can't tell the difference either.

I got mine with the 15% off coupon at TRU.

Actually I like the Female Pirate a lot.
