Viking vs KKII
I don't any Knight's Kingdom sets (1 or 2) and unless I happen apon them by some error, I likely never will.
However, I do plan on buying at least 2 Viking sets already. This was a no-brainer to me.

I went with KK2 as I use them for my Ancients. Not that I won't be using the Vikings, who will obviously take over for the Forestmen and Dark Forest as the new NORSE civilization.

Personally, I am not taking part in this poll.
While we may be in the minority, there are those of us who actually like the KKII sets (and the Vikings for that matter).
That being said, I like them both. Equally. They're not both 'horrible'.
Why?
Cause I'm a parts monkey, I don't buy sets, I buy a box of parts that I use to build other things. I love the figs in both series, cause they're different and cause they're castle(ish in the case of vikings).
Yeah, sure, they're not sets from the late 80's. So what? For several years what did we have for new Castle sets? Nothing! I'm rather happy LEGO even remembered us at all.
Go ahead and say that one or are both horrible. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. That just leaves more for me.

I see a perfect set in the preview picture (the fortress are very a classic original design) change in a poor design... catapult missiles ... no beards kk2 sword...
I see myself happy with all set in my hands change in a buyer of several good parts on bricklink
.
sorry for my negative opinion
for the beast only the dragon and the serpent sea are better of original design
the life still go with my '80 classic castle

I voted Vikings, but not because I despise KK2. Sure, it's not the greatest theme ever made, but it does have its merits.

The KK2(2) is better since there are lots of Shadow Knights within in the entire line. The fact that sets have more than 1 Shadow Knight is great. I'm excited about both lines though.

I voted KK2. Yes, I know I look fixated on it, but believe me when I say that the new Viking line is awesome as well. It's just that KK2 has more possibilites. With the Vikings, you just have a bunch of "good guys" fighting monsters. Not much room for creativity. But with KK2, we have characters, (King Mathias, Rascus, Vladek) factions (Rogue Knights, Morcia, Shadow Knights) and even places, (Ancoria, the Citadel) which to me is far more involving and open than a bunch of gruff dudes with axes letting rip on some Hollywood monsters. But I'm more of a story writer and a set builder than a parts specialist, so my opinion is somewhat different, and I still like the Vikings, despite their problems.
Hello!
I don't say you should not prefer the new KK2 sets over the Viking line. If you or anybody else feels like it it's fine with me. I just questioned the reasons you told.

Make the vikings the "bad guys" plundering Lindisfarne! Or make them simply "guys" who are good or bad depending on their mood, like you and me.SKM from BZPower wrote:With the Vikings, you just have a bunch of "good guys" fighting monsters.
If you have creativity you should be able to form your own characters in the Viking line. How about - for example - Leif Eriksson? Or invent your own! Don't stick to the pre-told stories that TLC supplies you with!
Look! :-) Then go ahead! But I'm more of a story writer

I agree with Jojo. Wouldn't having a pre-defined storyline (heck, we all know Barbie Blue is gonna become king) limit story telling? Just curious.Jojo wrote:But with KK2, we have characters, (King Mathias, Rascus, Vladek) factions (Rogue Knights, Morcia, Shadow Knights) and even places, (Ancoria, the Citadel) which to me is far more involving and open than a bunch of gruff dudes with axes letting rip on some Hollywood monsters. Its quite simple. Vikings invade Morcia. Now you open yourself up to many plot twists.
Will Vladrek try to pay them to destroy Morcia? Will Morcia have to ally with Vladrek to defeat the Vikings. Will they all remain to themselves and a three-way war begins?
Really the question shouldn't be which is better, because they can both integrate with one another. Just have the vikings come from across the sea south of Talonjay and they invade hehe. Boom third faction =)

The story is one of the biggest problems with KK2
! We are given five Knights with absurd names and generic personalities(ripped from your average Saturday morning cartoon!), and simple cannon fodder (shadow knights) to balance the ranks. Together, the four good Knights go harass the villian and his henchmen to save their generic Kingdom while encouraging us to buy some more playsets. But its okay, because we get a comic of Jayku receiving a nifty medalian! Go Jellybean Mega Force!!
Simply put, with KK2, NOTHING is left to the imagination!
I want building sets, not playsets! I want a theme that isn't dictated by a poorly written piece of tripe! I want LEGO to allow me to use my imagination again!

I feel sorry for the kids that only know KK2. When I was a kid, we could buy two or three sets and have seperate bands of Crusaders, Black Falcons, etc. But when you buy several KK2 sets you don't have a respectable force of Morcia vs. Shadow Knights- you just have duplicate Jayco's and Rascus'. It's like the Royal Knights. Even though I liked the set design better than the Dragon Masters before them, what are you going to do with four kings? It's like TLC just wants you to build one set and play with it, then buy another and play with that. I mean, Spiderman? Harry Potter? Not to bash those lines, but what do you do with six Harry Potter figures? To get back on topic, Vikings is the only medieval-ish theme in a while that lets you create a real army and do what you want with it. Simply put, Vikings 0wn.
I prefer the Vikings much more than KK2.
The Vikings at least look somewhat realistic!
I can't include the KK2 figs in my castle army because in my opinion, they look ridiculous.
They look more like power rangers than Knights!
And I myself could care less about the storyline, or comic which comes along with the set because the most important things are the mini-figs, pieces & set design!
(of course set design for me isn't a biggy because I always end up building my own stuff)

I think the Viking line is better.
The KK2 (season 2) isn't bad, and they have improved it a lot.
There is a lot of room to improve, and I still am a bit disappointed about
the lack of gargoyles and evil side-kicks for Vladak.
Also, a lack of generic soldiers for King Mattias.
But this is negative, sorry.

My perception is that TLC markets their toys towards kids and builds the story lines along the same template (for kids) the story line is fine for kids, which is what its for.
I personally agree with Sava. All these sets are great for parts. There is not one set coming out for either line, and HP, that I will not modify in some way and parts I can't use will get traded away to some who can use them for parts I like.
I'm sure KKII will get more factions. I don't remember Crusaders, BK, WP and Forestmen pooping up all in the same year. wasn't there supposed to be some orcs and rogue knights or something?
