Ditto here. I know a few wierdos who would like Spongebob Legos. (Ugh) My only concern is that Lego will run out of money to produce better things like Castle Factory. Can you imagine a full replication of Bikini beach? Ugh! No way am I going to be tempted to even look at the sets.

To tell the truth, if the spongebob sets contain parts I want, I may buy some. The fact is, I don't buy sets because of the sets. I buy a box of parts I can use in MOCs, so anything is MOC fodder. Who knows, the Spongebob line may introduce new aquatic flora and fauna that will prove to be very useful to many.

As far as Spongebob goes..... I'm thinking it will be a Duplo/+4 type of line. It's a show for a fairly young kid, and I know Lego wants to bring the kids in young and hope they grow into the rest of the line. So, It would make sense. They have several other licenses for very strong young child themes, like Thomas the tank engine.

The press release says it's popular for boys aged 6-11, and minifigs are mentioned, so it seems more likely it'll be a System theme to me.

Ok, so Spongebob isn't all that thrilling, true, but as others have said nobody's forcing you to buy them and whatever keeps lego afloat financially is acceptable to me.

But lets talk about this avatar thing. I've never heard of the show, so I immediately started looking for pictures. I think this could be very good news for castle, look at the way people are dressed. The main characters could very well be the answer to all our wishes for more peasant torsos (and knowing lego and their licensing, they'll be in every set so there'll be no shortage of them), and check out some of the soldier characters.

I'm seeing a lot of potential here, and as someone who loves non-faction-specific armor and torsos this gets me excited.

Oh, c'mon people! SpongeBob is great! It's one of the wittiest animated shows on TV these days -- full of sly, subversive humor kids are very unlikely to get.

Unlike most of you (it would seem), I hope these are SYSTEM sets, instead of 4+ or DUPLO. If they're SYSTEM, It'll be very interesting to see how they make Mr. Krabbs, Patrick, Squidward, and other non-humanoid characters -- not to mention Mr. SquarePants himself.

As others have said, if nothing else, these new sets will likely introduce some new pieces for MOC fodder.

Dunechaser isnt without point either. Spongebob isnt really bad, its like The Simpsons for kids. Its because the media hype that people consider it bad.

Very cool. I like the idea of having these vaguely Asian-looking torsos and helms available. The character with the blue arrow on his forehead will be annoying as all of us with lots of Harry Potter heads can understand, but the rest of these all look very versatile.

Even spongebob could be cool if we get more availability of things like the crab, the scoripon in red (aka lobster), the ornamental fish from the ninja sets (and recent Belville sets), etc in a variety of colors. Along with the merperson from the newest HP sets I could imagine a cool Atalantis subtheme, or maybe I'll get back into doing more sea monkeys MOCs.

It's not the licensed themes in themselves that I object to so much as the fact that TLC said they were phasing them out...

I can agree with that - just seeing pics like this one (http://www.avatarfans.net/gallery/album ... ap_537.jpg) suggests some very very cool baddies to compliment our already growing army of scorpians... this Avatar thing is COOL!
