Well actually I didn't. Clone bricks were not easy to come by in Australia in my day, thankfully, it was LEGO or nothing :)

I have Megablocks(please hold on with the pitchforks and torches), because I told an aunt of mine that I liked Lego, but she thought it as the same and gave me a Megablock submarine. I thanked her anyway.

You know you're a good person when you see megablocks and have to do things you would rather not.

Never mixed them. Own maybe 2 or 3 pounds of them that have collected through the years out of mixed lots (I never intentionally buy LEGO lots with MB content, but it happens anyway). Sort of like pennies and marbles and army men.

Never used them for anything, have seen one or two minor bits that looked vaguely interesting, but the rest just feel like garbage, so I will never be guilty of heresy, no worries there.

Still can't bring myself to just toss them though. Probably end up donated somewhere, clearly marked so as not to be confused with LEGO.

I have one MB set, a rather large castle, which I got as a present. sure, the quality of the bricks weren't as good as Lego, sure, the colours were a bit off (ok, way off), but they actually weren't that bad. I actually liked the muted red and the silver that they used. Would I buy them today? Not a chance. Was it a great present? It sure was!

I also have some Tyco blocks from when I was small and other people bought them for me. Mainly military sets, come to think of it. Very nice dark green colours.

All in all, I only buy lego. The over quality is better, the set designs are better, and I'm used to them.

I hate MB's with a passion....I once recieved a MB set as a gift (from a well-intentioned parent who basically thought "a brick's a brick"), and in fairness, I put the set together to see if it was any good. It was horrible. The bricks were badly off-color and fit very poorly, and there were no printed pieces...just a bunch of stickers that didn't stick very long. Nevermind the hideous minifig design...the set promptly found its way to the trashcan. Any time I buy garage sale legos, etc, I immediately purge them of anything that isn't lego.

Even worse is Best Lock. They don't and they aren't. Something else I have noted is that part-to-price the "clone" brands are not as cheap compared to LEGO anymore as they used to be. So the attraction to alternatives seems to be less interesting when considering price.

When I first began buying bulk lots I got caught with a lot of Megablocks once or twice, so there have been many in my house. I discovered the difference when I began cleaning the bricks and the megablocks all began to float, while the lego sank to the bottom - density and quality may have a correlation.

When I have excess MB's I bag them up and give them to kids at pre-schools or other places that don't have any blocks to play with.

The concept of the brick is a great one for learning and developing motor skills and once these guys get old enough to discern, they can make their choice.

I will keep tyco in my collection to help build interiors and supports, but I find megablocks too inconsistent, so put them in my give away pile.

I will admit to having some of the megablock weapons, but find they distort the lego hands - much like the work of Sauron ....

Those that can - build with what they can afford.
Enjoy the brick for what it is worth.
I prefer Lego.
Bert.

A relative of mine sent me a set when I was young so I just dumped it in with my other bricks. I later learned of my error and have tried to locate all the Megablocks to remove them from my precious collection. Since I learned that Megablocks and Legos don't mix, I haven't used any. I also haven't recieved any from any relatives. I guess those threat letters worked...

I generally throw megablocks out when I get some in a mixed collection (e.g., from a yard sale). Often I find myself finding stray ones weeks afterwards, though. I wouldn't knock people who use them in MOC's, but it's just not my thing.
