The Tequila Sunrise
Here's my latest steam engine I've been working on. It's lacking stickers, but someday I'll find a printer that can print decent stickers from home. Till then I'll have to wait till I can find the time to borrow the use of my father's printer.

It is a fully track compatible Hudson Class (4-6-4) steamer with Henry Dreyfuss inspired streamlining. I say inspired because these locomotives, designed exclusively for the New York Central lines for their 20th Century Limited, never came in yellow. But not all the parts I needed came in grey, and I didn't have a yellow locomotive yet. I think it turned out pretty nifty.
The locomotive will be numbered '7244', and will carry the 'Sava Railways' livery on the tender. It's name, the 'Tequila Sunrise', comes from the fact that it's blindingly yellow and my locomotive will be paired with Santa Fe Super Chief Pullman cars, at least till I can afford to make matching passenger cars. Plus I like the play on meaning (a Tequila Sunrise is an orange juice based alcoholic beverage).
I'll take more pictures when I have the stickers made and I have more energy.
Please let me know what you think!

Great looking train Tony, I really like your use of SNOT. I have to say, that the yellow and grey make a great combination.
I can’t wait to see it, with the stickers/decal applied.
Very well done, and keep those train creations coming.

Wow, that's a very striking design, & very cool too. Although I have never seen a locomotive quite like this before it reminds me alot of stylised steam engines in comics & art.
I like the studdless design & excellent SNOT all round. My favourite detail is how you have worked in the rail. My only critisism is the cow catcher, it looks great at a distance but a little clumsy close up. Nice work

Yes! You kept the railing!
Great job, I personally think the cow catcher is great, and the streamlining is ni-i-i-ice. I'm also diggin' the L tiles to hold the... tie rods?...in place.
The building of the big cylinder and it's light is awesome. "Soooo cooolll!" as the Shoggies would say.

Personally, I think it looks like a great big [insert your own joke here].

I really like the style of the model, but I have to admit that the darkness of my workspace is overwhelmed by the chosen color. It makes my eyes hurt... but I wish I could build one too.

Superb work Tony! I've been keeping tabs via Flickr, and I have to say I always liked this engine, but completed it really shines!
Great work again, and congrats on the finished product.

Thanks! I was a bit concerned about the color combination at first, but it really came together at the end.g2 wrote:Great looking train Tony, I really like your use of SNOT. I have to say, that the yellow and grey make a great combination.

I'm surprised to hear encouragement for future train MOCs on this forum, I always seem to get a 'When are you going to build Castle again?' at least once (and now that I've said it I'm guaranteeing someone will ask). Either I did a good job on this MOC, or you all have given up on me to ever go back.
Thanks! Those stylised steam engines you've seen are all based on the locomotives that I based mine on. See THIS PAGE for pictures of the real locomotive (scroll down to the 20th Century Limited).DARKspawn wrote:Wow, that's a very striking design, & very cool too. This is my first (mostly) studless MOC. I typically abhore studlessness, but the design seemed to call for it. I admit the cow catcher isn't a perfect solution, but its the best one that meets my criteria - basic shape and stability during train operation.
Thanks! Piston is probably the correct term here.Shadowviking wrote:Yes! You kept the railing!

The original looked that way too, so I'll take it as a complimentAthos wrote:Personally, I think it looks like a great big [insert your own joke here].
