Why so few shields?

Post by Borka »

I was looking at the 2008 sets and noticed a lack of shields. Only one set, the good knight, includes enough shields to equip all minifigs, in all the other sets theres a lot of weapons but only a few shields. Are the shields really expensive to produce, or is there some other reason not to include them? For an armybuilder it sure makes the sets less desirable! Thoughts?

I'd guess because kids are more interested in weapons than shields.

Its also probably significantly more expensive to make shields, as they require printing.

I would agree, however, that they are worth the extra effort.

As a stop-gap measure, I think the 2x2 round plates would make passable shields for the orcsess.

You can also pick up some more shields on Bricklink, although isn't their one in the Knight impulse set?

That would work for the knights, but the dwarfs and orc shields are difficult to come by.

I'm always annoyed by this. TLC always encourages sales with special parts, but I think adding a shield to the list is a little low... at least we have a faction worth holding them now though.

God Bless,

Well, good thing there's Bricklink. For those of us who love shields, we're willing to pay a little extra coin to get them.

Hopefully Lego doesn't let shields fall by the wayside like the plumes. What's next... no weapons???

I don't think we have to worry about the shield not being in future circulation.

They were introduced at the time of the classic knights and have been around ever since.

I do hope the plumes come back, there is still a hole in the helmets so let's hope for the best!
