Sneaky peak at Castle's future
Well today we got our LEGO Club magazine at my house and it's pretty standard stuff, not too many spoilers or things we don't know. Mostly. There is one sneaky little bit of information stuck into the top left corner of the World of LEGO Castle map on pages 10 and 11:
"The Elflands. A deep woodland of mystery and magic."
Ohhhh yes my friends. Elf minifigures and sets based in a forest theme will return late in 2008 or early 2009. I have forseen it!
All other known races, subdivisions and themes of the current Castle theme are mapped out in the magazine as well so you get an idea where all hail from. The Elfs are upon the map in the Northwest corner of forests by the Northern Sea's Western edge. The Dwarfs dwell in the underground of the Southwest, Trolls upon the Northeast shore of the Northern Sea and right next door to the Mt. Drake where Dragons spawn. Men dwell in the lands across the center of the map, which is divided at the Eastern end by the evil Wizard. That leaves our King to rule in the Western Kingdom (an official name!).
I would like to have a more proper poster of this map to place upon my shop wall where I build my kingdoms, but this certainly helps explore the mythology of LEGO's current Castle theme.
Check yer mailboxes!!!

Sounds like a nice development. I hope they do as good a job as they've done with the Orcs and Crownies (though the Orcs need a home base).
I do wish they'd drag a sub-theme out a bit more than one year. I'd like to have seen the undead v. crownies year two.
Got any scans of the page?
Oh wait, here is a picture from pigbrick at eurobricks:

Looks like the elf has an Indy-style pouch on. That doesn't bode well for the quiver, since you can't have both. Personally, I think he looks more hunnic/barbarian than elf-y.

The picture looks great!
I hope that is the actual shape of the Elf helm, I think it looks really good.
A return of the longbow and some archer shields would really hit the spot, and I wonder what the elf torso designs would look like? Maybe similar to the forestmen, I hope?
I'm excited about this Elf line, I'll start saving up $$$ for it.

Yes! Yes! Yes!
I don't know if it's just that I've been really digging the Castle '08 line, or have high hopes for a triumphant return to Forestmen-like sets, am looking forward to an abundance of what I assume will be green/dkgreen/brown pieces and minifigs, or just the fact that we'll be getting longbows again... but YAY!
(I'm curious if the hair + helmet combination is just artistic license, of if LEGO's going to try and actually do that as an actual piece.)

I really hope that this is true. Elves will complete this as a truly Tolkien-esque theme- I'm really looking forward to the possibilities. Now, for the Last Alliance...

I wonder what kind of headgear will be involved. It would be weird to see a helmet/hair combo element but even weirder if they were separate elements. You could use the hair portion as a Skullet.

Holy Shamoley! Elf-es?! Official?! Wow, I think that I am going to faint...
...ok, maybe not, but it does sound pretty darn amazing. I just hope that they do a good job on them.
In Christ,
