OIL!

Post by timber_wolf899 »

So, anyone wondering if the record cost of oil is going to translate into higher lego costs via petro-chemicals?

If it does, I don't think prices will raise much, maybe a few cents (in America) or a little more. Who knows, though, oil is effecting everything in a drastic way (in America at least).

Yes it will, since plastic is made of oil. For example, if the cost of flour goes up, and since bread is made of flour, the bread's price will also increase. I'm not lookin' forward to it... :(

I thought we were talking about the book when I saw the title. ;-)

It's a chain-reaction. But that's my opinon, I guess. ;-)

I don't think we'll see much of a change anytime soon. Just one in three components of ABS plastic is derived from petroleum. Also, I think LEGO Company will resist any changes for the sake of effective pricing. While the price of plastic might rise a few cents, we aren't going to see sets priced $5.07 or $107.89. I think they'll wait until a full five dollar jump becomes reasonable before changing anything.

You have the price increase from shipping product in addition to supply of chemical for production.

Oil, like Gold, is a good initial indicator of price increases to come, though I think the predominant issue for the US is inflation.
