Elm Castle

Post by Michal H./gearcs »

Elm castle is a seat of Sir Roland, third defender of the Arboria. It is a guard castle on the south border of the Dark Arborian Forest. Roland lives here with his wife Elvira, the most beautiful woman of the Arboria. He is guarding the old pathway through the forest. But the Dark Forest has its own guardians...

Awesome landscaping and interesting architecture. The castle manages to look both homely due to the tudor style houses and sturdy and unmoving thanks to the giant tower.

I look forward to when the folder goes public so I can have a look at the details. :D

Edit: Now that the folder's public, I can safely say my expectations have been met. I like the little details like single rocks and all the hidden animals, the clever architectonic details, the way the mismatched greys keep the walls from looking monotone - all very cool.

But you know what would take this MOC to the top of awesomeness? An Interior with take-off roof and storeys.

(What? - Me, demanding? :halo:)

This is very nice, and you must have some patience to tile a large floor using 1x1 tiles.

You're public, and all I can say is absolutely awesome!
What a great creation with lots of excellent details, good job! :D

Very, Very good castle, and landscaping in particular.
But, I do have some constructive criticism.
First of all, I think that the faces on the mini figs could be a bit more diversified.
It is just kind of weird to have this detailed, exquisite female peasant face, in the background behind a smiley :)
Just looks kinda strange, but that is my opinion, take it if you like it.
One quick question:
Where on the MOC does it show
But the forest has it's own guardians
That might just be part of the "storyline", but it beats me! :twitch:
Nice work though!
^You should be more concerned with what's written above^

WOAH! This is one of those Castle MOCs that just make me sit back and smile...BIG! It's not huge, it's not hyper-detailed, it's not chock full of rare parts, it just plain great! You have some very nice shapes, good roofs, lovely tudor sections, good landscaping/rockscaping, and well-placed figs. I will be bookmarking this for sure. Wonderful bit of work!!!

I like it very much. The water is a executed very well. So am I missing the forest guardians though or are they the spiders?

This is my kind of castle.

I don't have much to say in the way of criticism (I adore Forestmen and everything is ship-shape). Although I agree with Stahlregen that everything's better with interiors.

But what I think strikes me the most are the black roofs on the great Tudor constructions. I love that they have softer tops instead of jagged, pointed, gothic peaks. I think the curved effect the 2x2x1 slopes adds to the top of the steeper slopes makes the castle look more "homely" and inviting, and less cold and unapproachable than a castle occupied by super rich royal family types with sharp pointed roofs and suits of armor and so-forth.

Thanks for your comments and kind words, I'm very pleased that so much builders spent their time with it.

The answer is nowhere, this MOC is only first piece of my kingdom, Arboria. The forest guardians... it's a surprise and maybe secret, which will be shown next time...
I know the minifig faces should be more natural, but I love my forestmen so much, that I can't change their heads

Yes, it was a big problem due to the palace window technique. The construction, which isn't visible, is taking a lot of space and so the interiors would be very very small. So I made a decision not to build the interiors...

It would be an honour for me :)

It's a little weird, but what immediately jumped out at me was the rails on the tower. Great job overall!

Yup, brilliant. I particularly liked the way you did the water, too.
