I wanted to do a updated scorpion here is my first attempt. I flipped the scorpion to be facing up. (I'm not sure why they are upside down on the official torsos) and did it only in grey scale so that it would match the shield. What do you think?

If it wasn't for the yellow minifig head, I would've thought that you had posted a greyscale picture.
Honestly, I like the metallic red goodness that is the original scorpion torso, and the greyscale version, well, sort of pales in comparision. It does match the shield nicely, though.
It's just that it is sort of boring without any colored accents at all. Maybe you should try colored hands - and matching plumes if you use an appropriate helmet.

That's a nice looking torso! As mentioned, it matches the shield well.
