Re: Pirates Sail Away in 2010
Well, that's disappointing.
Still, this:
*Coincidentally, about when Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is supposed to be out.

gives me some hope that "one day" will end up only being 2011*. Does anyone know how much lead time a theme like this usually gets?Bonaparte wrote:We were told that the new Pirates line wasn't designed to be an ongoing theme this time, so it's only going to be on the shelves until second half next year by when it will disappear. This means there's not a new line designed for LEGO Pirates for 2010. There is some hope that LEGO Pirates might be back one day because the theme did sell rather well.

It would be nice, but I think that megablox has already acquired the Pirates of the Caribbean license, or at least for "World's End"*Coincidentally, about when Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is supposed to be out.

[Warning: contains link to megablox website]
I'm not sure about Pirates 4, though.

Forbidden Cove has a petition regarding the news here.
Normally i'm not a fan of them, but with the success of the CC/TBB petitions last year regarding the Castle Advent Calendar, I think it is worthwhile putting down your name and or comments regarding the news- it might make a difference.

Re: Pirates Sail Away in 2010
I posted at Forbidden Cove; signing the petition and then read the Eurobrick forum about the new PotC. I should have waited to post. The "other brand" has the licensing for the PotC line. LEGO probably doesn't want to infringe on their new and soon to be very profitable relationship with Disney so *poof* no pirate line.
I have taken the opportunity to consult my crystal ball with the magic "8". It informs me the line will be back "Soon" (2012-2013?).
Look at the bright side though. This give LEGO three to four years to develop some really nice pirate sets.

Re: Pirates Sail Away in 2010
I thought it was strange that they really haven't come out with any new sets since last January, there's the tic-tac-toe, battle pack, and advent calender (that I can't order anyway), but that's a little different. Too bad they didn't at least come up with a few new sets for the Christmas rush, or even for January, I really liked the new pirates theme. I suppose "there's not a new line designed for LEGO Pirates for 2010" comment could mean more sets before Christmas, we'll have to wait and see I guess.

It is a shame as it was a good line. I really enjoyed some of the new elements in pirate.

Re: Pirates Sail Away in 2010
Well, the skeletal horses have been around since early 2003 at least-- Granted, they were also used in Harry Potter, but I wouldn't be surprised if the concepts for the current Castle lineup were already being prepared back then, which is 4 years. In that instance, I think they probably had the Fantasy Castle more-or-less ready to go, and were slated to launch it as soon as Knight's Kingdom was phased out (which happened in 2006).Azaghal wrote:Does anyone know how much lead time a theme like this usually gets?
They've probably got some more installments of Pirates ready, but won't go live with them until the market is ready for them. It's also possible that it was felt that Pirates would compete too much with the upcoming "Atlantis" theme, and so nothing new in the Pirates line was to be released-- but that's just an off-the-wall possibility; I personally doubt they'd be in too much direct competition.

Very interesting. POC4: On Stranger Tides, is due out in 2011, so you'd think it would be a no brainer to have some Pirates sets on the shelves then to take advantage of the hype. Either they have *secret plans* to snag the license for this movie, or they fully intend to only have had Pirate sets out in the gap *between* the releases of the most popular pirate movies in history.

My biggest disapointment is that the soldiers are still landbound and the "bad" guys own the seas.
That seems like a big hole in the line to say that it was a planned 1 year run.

Since it says mid-2010, I imagine there is still time for a run of a small number of new sets (like the Vikings got). Maybe there'll be a soldier ship in there?

I was at a Lego store today and was told that there are new sets for next year and that it does include a ship for the soldiers. This person has seen pictures and said that they were awsome
