Should TLG make Lego Universe sets?
Should TLG make Lego Universe sets?
After seeing the Lego Universe(LU) trailer ,I was wondering if anyone would like to see LU sets?
Re: Should TLG make Lego Universe sets?
No.
I think LEGO Universe is supposed to be based on existing sets...

Well, I think there is room for something better there; e.g. the ideas people had in the topic about possible Castle collectible minifigures. But if they released some of the characters as part of the second wave of the Collectible minifigures range that'd be fine with me.

I don't think I'd buy sets made around this game. But if they released some of the characters as part of the second wave of the Collectible minifigures range that'd be fine with me.
I wouldn't mind getting the red ninja, knight or Falconer from the screenshots of the game. http://universe.lego.com/en-us/Default.aspx
If they are going to make a game for people to create their own character online. I think most people would also want to make their character as a minifig aswell.

Some of those things would make good minifigs like those evil half skelly half minifig guys.

I couldn't say it any better myself. Custom decals/painting aside, I've found that the best way to get heroes and villains for my stories have been through buying these random sets with somewhat unique figs included in the set.dyntar wrote:I don't think I'd buy sets made around this game. That said, I guess this game would have to sell quite well before they decided to actually go through the process of designing/setting up/manufacturing new sets and new figs~

Re: Should TLG make Lego Universe sets?
So...based on my completely unofficial understanding, the creations you see in LU are MOCs anyway.
As much as we love our MOCs, they're just not good sets for LEGO. We use techniques set designers can't. We use pieces they don't have access to. We don't worry about having to market our creations beyond our respective communities, we don't have to worry about durability or playability. We make some really, really fragile creations. We have such uncompriable freedom with our creations that asking that our MOCs be turned into sets is really unfeasable. Yes, there was the My Own Creation line, but that had two sets, six years ago. And hasn't continued.
The sets that AFOLs gravitate towards most (like Cafe Corner, MMV, and the Imperial Ship) are also high price points, in line with their incredible detail--not good for mass marketing, like LU would need.
That said, do I want to see LU sets? No. Cause I betcha I've already seen em.

Uhh, I wouldn't say so, unless the people could buy their character, but still they have pieces in BL for that... So not really.
