Christmas loot thread

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas. So, what did people get under the tree this year?

At our house, LEGO gift buying is pretty much for the kids these days. Toy Story is all the rage at our house - after Toy Story 3 came out on DVD we got all three movies, and my kids watch them over and over. So my son got this 5691, Alien Space Crane Duplo set:

Also, 5643, Little Piggy as a stocking stuffer,

and a 24x24 Duplo baseplate (green).

My daughter is just about graduating from Duplo to System, so we went ahead and got 7597, Western Train Chase for her. I'll have to help her build it for now, but it was the set with all the characters.

Finally, as far as LEGO goes, we got them a LEGO table:

(BTW, Amazon marks that thing up over $100 from getting it at Toys R Us, and that's not even including shipping.)

Oh, I also got another copy of 7595, Army Men on Patrol as a stocking stuffer.

My LEGO loot was small this year. I got two series 2 fig, the farmer and pig impulse set and several small LEGO polybags. Little loot is fine, for this year was the year of the dvd and books for me.

This may be the first Christmas since 1992 (when I got my first LEGO set as a Christmas present) that I have not received LEGO for Christmas--at this point, if it's going to happen, it'll be part of Christmas with the girlfriend when I get back east.

Of course, there are a number of small things over the past few months, in preparing OTHERS Christmas presents that I could think of as my presents to myself... a trip to the LEGO Store, extra pieces in Bricklink orders... all the same, it's a strange, different year indeed.

My mother got me the Dragon Prison Tower. My wife got me the Scorpion Pyramid. And my little one got the Duplo Farm; we've spent a good portion of the day handing the animals and people back and forth.

Since early Spring I've been going through buckets and boxes of all of the old Legos my brother and I had as kids, and I decided I'd sort out my brother's sets and give them to him for Christmas. I acquired quite a few missing pieces off of Bricklink, and I also bought one of the new minifigure collector's cases to display some of his more interesting minifigs as well as a couple of new Collectible Minifigs I tossed in.

Some of the sets I was able to reconstruct for him were the Fire Station (6382), the Blacksmith's Shop (6040), Black Monarch's Ghost (6034), the Battle Dragon Boat (6028), and the Catapult (6030). Some of the Space Sets included the Mobile Lab (6901), the All Terrain Vehicle (6927), the Alpha 1 Rocket Base (483), and the space Supply Station (6930). Surprisingly I was able to dig up about half of the original plans for all of his sets, and together with copies from Peeron for the missing plans I put together a nice three-ring folder with a catalog of all his sets and their plans. He seemed pleasantly surprised when he opened the huge hatbox and found all the lego sets he had as a kid.

Back in April I also purchased the Green Grocer as the annual splurge I allow myself, and stowed it away until Santa could come and give it to me. I'm glad I was thinking far enough ahead to do so, because it now appears to be sold out from the Lego site.

I buy sets over the course of the year and stow them away. Then, sometime during December, I sort the smaller sets so its seems like I received a bucket load. As far as under the tree I couldn't resist a King's Castle during the Thanksgiving sales, so I picked up one. I also received two 7949 Prison Carriage Rescue and two 7950 Knight's Showdown from family.

We gave the boys a couple of exoforce sets, a couple of Toy Story sets: Compactor Escape and Western Train Chase. The boys gave daddy the Imperial Flagship and my wife got me the Scorpion Pyramid. The cutest thing was my sister in law gave me a full PAB cup. I'm curious to sort it out and see what a 'layperson' does with a cup like that. It was a great LEGO day but I'll admit that I'm feeling a bit burned out and need to go watch my Family Guy "It's a Trap" dvd and chill out.
I hope everyone had as nice a day as we did!

I didn't get too much in LEGO this year, but I took advantage of the big LEGO sale at my local LEGO store today, using Bricklink money, so I consider it a present to myself.

But my parents did buy me the Winter Bake Shop, and my son and daughter "bought" me the Helicopter and Limousine set today, which pretty much made my Christmas as far as gifts go.

I also got a nifty wireless set of headphones so I can listen to my evil, political radio shows at work without bothering my co-workers (our building is shielded so I only get a radio signal at the window).

I did pretty well this year!

My fiancee got me the absolutely wonderful Lego Book and she also got me the Lego Castle watch that I made this thread about. And it fit with plenty of room to spare!

My mother got me the advent calendar which I opened up by the day as designed. She also got me the 5929 castle set for kids (she saw the soldier and just grabbed it I suppose!). I got the Medieval Marketplace...but I opened it a bit earlier in the month. :) In addition to all of this, I got several non-Lego things - a nice watch, cologne, some books, etc.

All in all very nice loot. I love The Lego Book so much though. If you haven't gotten your hands on one yet, do so. You will not regret the decision.

I didn't get much Lego, but I did get one of the new Pharaoh's quest sets, Golden Staff Guardians.

However, since I'm in MI and visiting family, I did manage to go to the new Lego store in Troy and picked up a 7754 Home One Mon Calamari Star Cruiser and a 7749 Echo Base, each of them 1/2 off. I'll probably hang on to those and just sell them off at some point.

I had a decent haul this year, getting two Power Miners (Fire Blaster and Rock Wrecker) an Indiana Jones (Chauchilla Cemetery Battle) a PoP (The Fight for the Dagger) a Pirate set (Loot Island, my second one) and the Toy Story LGM polybag set. I also got a $25 gift card to TRU, and bought some NinjaGo with it.

I got the Wizard Kingdoms impulse set, a 7950 Knight's showdown, and I got a Fred Meyer gift card, which my mom said she would use. She gave me $25, and I went down to a non affilliated Lego shop (managed by just a couple people) and bought 4 horses outfitted with a dragon head armor and red/black Fright Knights body armor. I also got enough money to order some other parts, and when my secret project is all finished, it will be posted here (still waiting for parts to arrive.)
