Crumbling Tower
Crumbling Tower
Two bandits make their hideout in an abandoned, crumbling tower.
Finally was able to start building again, and this was something I put together over the last couple weeks or so. I wanted to try something different that didn't look quite as "clean" as usual so I decided to do a tower where the top part had caved in. Every brick in the tower is attached to something, in theory you could tip it upside down and nothing would fall off (although I don't think I'm going to try it). I also bought a LifeLites kit last year around Christmas and wanted to play with that some more to see how it did with the fire effect. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it too.

The tower is great!. I really like the idea of doing a dilapidated MOC. The landscaping is really well done too. I like the lights as well, makes the MOC look really lived in.

Re: Crumbling Tower
The thing that does it for me is the last pic of the MOC at night, it would be a great scene for a epic LEGO internet story. The lighting goes good with the tower design.

That's a really wonderful idea, and nicely executed. I wonder a little bit if all of that rubble would stay up on top, or if there might be more open spots where it had fallen and the stars shine through.... but maybe that's just from a book I've read. The lighting for the night shots looks great, too!

Re: Crumbling Tower
Great job on making a dilapidated old tower The base is what stands out to me most, and the timber sticking through the side of the tower. The fire is really cool as well.
Great work and keep on building.

Re: Crumbling Tower
This is an awesome idea! I wish I thought of stuff like this to do, instead of my massive, all-consuming projects that seem to take forever to finish, lol.
I like a lot of things about this build. The fire is well done and the way you set it up makes it work really well with the light.
The base is also neat, and the posing of the fig next to the fire looks awesome. The color scheme is great, and I love the last picture taken in the dark which really highlights the doorway's dilapidation.
The landscaping is terrific, and I think you did a good job of making a setting for the tower that really works well together.
If I was going to pick on anything (and I'm an engineer, so I'm afraid I must, but it's in the spirit of constructive critique ), it would be that there might be a little too much rubble on the top, and not enough spilled over on the outside or piled up in the interior. Also, the fact that the tree is growing out of the center of the tower would probably force the walls outward, as opposed to having them collapse inward. In fact, the whole idea of a large tree (what would have to be a massive trunk is nowhere to be seen in the interior) growing out of the middle of the tower isn't very plausible (lack of sunlight, and it's also much larger than the trees on the outside, which is opposite of what you would think the case would be.
If you had it growing outside and next to the tower, with a large branch pushing into it, it might be a little more realistic. Some vines on the exterior would also add a lot, I think.
Anyway, that's my humble opinion. I hope that didn't come across too negatively, because I really like the MOC a lot

Great work.
More than anything, I like the top of the tower. It really looks as if it this is a stop-motion frame in an animated movie with the walls are collapsing in on themselves.

Re: Crumbling Tower
I have to say, this might be my favorite Castle MOC I've seen in quite a while. Though fairly simple in idea and execution, it has a wonderful feel. The tower's crumbliness (yes, that's a word... ) at the top especially. I really don't have a whole lot else to say. Love it, man!

Re: Crumbling Tower
Thanks for all the comments and criticism, I appreciate all the feedback and I'm glad you all liked it.
The wooden parts sticking out were supposed to be support beams and part of the original tower structure actually, not a tree growing out from the middle. Although now that you've said that, I can totally see how it would look that way. I like the idea of some vines though, I didn't think of that. No worries, I appreciate the criticism.AK_Brickster wrote:Also, the fact that the tree is growing out of the center of the tower would probably force the walls outward, as opposed to having them collapse inward.

Re: Crumbling Tower
As far as realistic ruins go, this one is gorgeous! I dont really like how all the ruined blocks are "suspended" above the minifigs heads though.

Re: Crumbling Tower
Even without broken top it would be a great build. Damage looks very 'organic' in shape. Excelent!!!
