CCC IX Cross-Category awards

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

You may remember last year's cross-category awards. The same thing will happen this year. In addition to the normal judging and prizes, six standout builders will get custom titles for:

Most humorous entry - Make us laugh!
Most dramatic entry - Make us cry!
Innovative building technique - Make us wonder how you did that!
Best series - For three or more entries that are somehow related to each other. They may share a building style, all focus on the same faction, combine to tell a story, connect to make one larger scene, or work together in some other way.
Best use of fire - Ignite your imagination and somehow use the idea of fire in your entry.
Best use of Hugh - Incorporate our new mascot, Hugh, into your scene somehow:

Cross category awards are just for fun and do not affect the judging of the main categories in any way. Someone may win a category with one entry and get a custom title for another, or someone may get a custom title even if their entries don't score well otherwise.

This makes me even more excited for CCC. I was already planning to connect all my entries in a series so I will be doing "Best Series" for sure. The other ones spark my interest as well. Thanks Admins!

Hmmmm, I actually was thinking this morning on how to incorporate some useless pieces into my CCC MOCs. Now maybe I'll put more thought into it.

These should be fairly easy to work into some entries.

I never saw the winners for these last year. I asked about it in a thread, but don't think there ever was an answer. I do remember that one of the categories was "best use of purple", which I thought quite amusing and wanted to see who won. Did winners ever get posted, and I just missed it? If not, I find the sentence about "you may remember last year's cross-category awards... the same thing will happen this year" to be ironic. ;-D Anyway, this is said with the best of intentions; I just remember finally giving up on ever seeing winners posted.

I don't remember who all the winners were, but I won the category for most humorous and have had a different forum title for the past year. :D

Oh, thanks for the link! I think I had given up looking by March, so I wasn't paying attention when they were announced. ;)

I've planned a series of smaller MOCs fromn the beginning, so I guess I'll enter all the cross-categories
except for the last one. I don't have the pieces for Hugh.

I don't have the pieces for Hugh either. :( for Hugh's torso, could I use a standard 2007 Lego Castle torso? And do his helmet and spear have to be dark silver?

Can I give Hugh a minifig head with a different facial expression to make him fit in with whats going on in the MOC? For exmaple, if its a sad MOC could I give Hugh a sad face? Thank you for your time, I'm very excited to participate in this years CCC! :D

Hugh should be recognizably Hugh. The further you get away from the official design, the less likely I am to even notice that Hugh is in a MOC.
