Rivendell [LOTR]

Rivendell by Blake's Baericks, on Flickr

Hello all,

I present to you my latest creation. This is a collaborative with a good friend of mine for Brickfair VA 2012. Due to both of our unique interests in Lord of the Rings and our supreme passion for the LEGO brick, we decided to combine them into a creation for Brickfair 2012. This was our second time collaborating on a creation (our first collaborative being Amon Hen), and this was definitely the largest, hardest, and most fun project that either of us have worked on. Because of our unique building styles, we complemented each other well and used the best of both our talents to great effect. We chose Rivendell because of its beautiful landscape, its iconic nature, and the fact that it will be in the upcoming Hobbit movie trilogy. It is our hope that you will enjoy the natural beauty and our creative gifts as expressed in this artistic representation of Rivendell, from the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Signed,
Blake Baer and Jack Bittner

Enjoy!

I really appreciate hearing from you all. I know I haven't be too terribly active lately, but that will be amended with the completion of this project. Please leave a comment letting me know what you think. Also, suggestions on how to make it better are quite welcome. :)

Cheers!
-Blake

Well......I don't even know where to begin. Geez. Kind of funny that this has the official Lego figures, but not that's a bad thing. Just interesting to see them in the middle of such a huge MOC. I love the paths and the waterfalls, and the staircases are really nice too. Just so many great details! Wonderful job guys. :D

Blake, you already know how much I love this. The amount of detail you both put in is amazing! I also think that the modularity of the creation is very cool, I appreciated the WIP pics you put on mocpages. Anyways, astounding work!
You would rather be building right now.

Hey Blake,

I'm so glad you finally posted this. I'd seen pics from BrickFair, but wanted to see it in all of the detail. Some favorite bits:
-all of the water, of course - it really looks like it's flowing
-Boromir on the bridge
-the basketball net as part of that little gazebo thing
-all of the variations in elevation
-the fact that you used the dark gray for the deeper level of rock and then light gray for higher levels, and even continued this motif around the outside - it really looks like you just sliced down into the ground and lifted out this whole section of landscape
Posted on TolkienBricks, of course.

I can't even begin to describe how incredible this is. It is amazing that you guys were able to maintain such a level of detail throughout the whole build. The water is superbly done, as well as all of the trees/foliage. Great job! :)

Beautiful work  I'm especially impressed by the sense of movement in the water, though the whole scene is stunning :D

Came back just for a moment and all of a sudden this incredible holy grail of Lego builds is staring me in the face. Even if you never achieve another noteworthy achievement in your life, you two would still have achieved something greater than most people ever will. It is beautiful. Tolkien himself must count this as being among the coolest things his work has inspired.

Sadly, this will never make the cut to become an official set. :twitch:

Awesome build. The first thing I thought of was how similar this looks to the Rivendell from the game War of the Rings. The water just looks fantastic along with every other detail. If this Moc isn't the best selling point for why we need fall foliage, I don't know what is. This should appear on one of the non-LEGO LOTR sites.
