For me, it's certainly the Troll Battle Wheel. Whilst a strange concept, I think it was done really well and also I love the troll minifigs it comes with. I never owned either set, but if I were to buy one it would be that one.

This Viking set is awesome because of all minifigs and shields. It got my vote!

I own neither of these, but if I Could pick one I'd go for the vikings!

Re: Battle of the Castle Sets: 7020 vs 7041
They are both the stinker sets of their respective themes.
The wheel thing is stupid. It comes with quite a few figures too. It also has a bunch of click hinge bricks, which I don't like, and the build was horribly repetitive. But it comes with a few nice parts, like the dark brown plates.
The viking thing is pretty lame too. It comes with a lot of figures too. The machine is full of technic pieces that I never use and doesn't come with many interesting pieces.
I'm going to have to with the wheel though. It has a better price per piece ratio and the parts were more usable. I do really like the Viking theme, however, and was just, yesterday, wishing they'd bring it back.

Re: Battle of the Castle Sets: 7020 vs 7041
I own both of these sets. I used the Troll Wheel as a prize for a contest once too. I agree with Athos, both are kind of stinkers of sets.
But I went Viking instead of Troll. I think when I look at the Troll Wheel I think "um..what is this?!?" While it was a fun set, I rather have the Viking one. I liked the figs. The only thing I didn't like was those big wheels. I feel like I am drowning in wheels. I did like that it didn't have one of those odd animals that the rest of the Viking sets had. Sorry but I wasn't thrilled with those animals. Try having to build and rebuild them over and over for little one when they fall apart...you won't enjoy them that much after that.
But it is fun to compare. I'm totally enjoying these battle threads!

Tough one, but I had to go with the Troll Battle Wheel. I don't have the Vikings set, but honestly, I think the wheel is more interesting to look at. It doesn't make any sense, but at least it looks nice. The Vikings set is a bit dull. Though it makes a very nice army builder, the set itself is... dull.

I'm gonna have to go with Vikings, simply because it comes with so many minifigures that are Vikings, one of my favorite factions.

Troll Battle wheel. That set was just to crazy. and really crazy just means awesome fun set. The Viking set is just, um, ugly. And boring.

Those set numbers are the wrong way round...Bruce N H wrote:Two sets enter the arena, only one can emerge victorious! 2006 set 7041, Army of Vikings with Heavy Artillery Wagon, versus 2008 set 7020, Troll Battle Wheel.
The viking set is hideous. Looks like a bad MOC. The troll one may be bonkers, but I'd still choose it over the vikings.
+1 for Trolls.
Re: Battle of the Castle Sets: 7020 vs 7041
I own both sets and placed my vote in the Vikings camp.
Here's why: I was able to snag 5 copies of this set from Big Lots prior to a local Lego event. I assembled all 5 and added them to my castle layout. The kids had a BLAST taking turns firing an onslaught of arrows into the layout! You haven't seen anything until you see a group of kids going giddy as they fire arrows from 5 catapults across a layout, knocking down figs and monsters that stand in their path.
The battle wheel is a nice build, no doubt about it, but it feels very over-sized compared to other sets (though maybe that's the point). The shields of the Viking set help set it apart and the parts themselves have more variety and usability than the troll wheel. Point, Vikings.

+1 Vikings
Both sets are not good at all. But Viking one have extremly beautifull printed 1x4 brown tiles, a lot of shields and Vikings.

I don't own the Battle Wheel so I can't really say too much about it, the whole freaky concept makes me all happy though, so I have to vote for that. And it looks pretty cool, if weird, in the pictures at least. The Viking set, which I do own, is just ugly though, but an acceptable army builder, and you do get some nice shields and printed dragon tiles (neither of which are unique to this), so that's a tiny plus I suppose.

I don't always buy bad LEGO sets, but, when I do, I prefer Troll Battle Wheel.

Re: Battle of the Castle Sets: 7020 vs 7041
Hey,
I have a real affection for both of these strange sets. Both are good for bulking up armies for their respective themes and both contain large unrealistic siege weapons. I own the Viking one, which I got in lieu of buying a lot of the other Viking sets as a way to get a bunch of figs. I like all of the printed elements included like the shields and those brown 1x4 tiles. There are some places that I didn't like the construction, like the extension of the bar out front just by adding another 1xn brick and pasting it together with plates. It seems like they could have come up with something much more elegant. The siege machine was fun for a few moments, but it quickly got melted into the rest of my collection.
On the other hand, the battle wheel just makes me giggle with its sheer whack-a-doodle craziness. Imagine one of these things bearing down on you - I'd run away just like the soldier on the box cover image. While the little fortification was a throw-away, and I didn't want another one of those catapult bucket pieces, I appreciate the way it was covered with spears, so it could just be seen as more parts to equip an army. Minor quibble - when the two trolls on the left and right run, the big wheels will actually turn the wrong way, so the battle wheel will go into retreat mode. Regardless, I had to go with the Battle Wheel for the fun factor.
BTW, Andhe, thanks for the correction. I've switched the set numbers. I hope I didn't mess up the validity of this very scientific poll.
