Trains and traditions at Christmas

Post by Merlin of Lego »

When I was a kid I loved the idea of having a train under the tree but my family never had one but some friends did. A few years beforeI got married I got these train sets because they were highly usable with my weastern collection.

After I got married these two sets were modified to be Christmasy. This train goes under my tree. The car in 2126 that carries two cars is tranformed into a brown boxcar with Christmas lights made of the green vines and othe parts. The doors to the boxcar are open and there is an elf (forester) with presents behind him. Other cars carry canoes, small computers or various other gifts. The engine is run by my Santa fig.

This year I wanted to ad a fillage but due to time constrains that is now three houses Two of them pretty lame one a little nicer. I was limited in time. There is also now a small tunnel. I hope for this to become nicer as the years go on.

The train was great our first two Christmases but now there are small children so the train is unable to spend the whole season out. Now my sons train (2933http://guide.lugnet.com/set/2933) goes under the tree untill Cristmas eve when Santa changes the train so that in the morning my nice train is under the tree.

This has become a standard tradition in our family.
I hope to get some pictures posted after Christmas this year.

Do any of you have LEGO traditions in your family besides getting them?

Growing up my sisters and I would build all our new sets Christmas morning while watching what ever new movie we happen to get. It was policy that no new set could remain unbuilt in the bow at bed time.

Traditions

Not really, but Christmas sure doesn't seem the same without Legos. You built a tunnel? Wow! For my trains I just use the bottom of a dresser or something.

Beyond getting a LEGO train specifically for the tree (4535 - I like steam locomotives), no traditions, though I suppose if I had a few gazillion white slopes, I might make a medieval Christmas village.
