Cool pics. :D I THOUGHT that the KK2 swords were in there. It doesn't really bother me though. I like the bronze and silver swords.

Hmmmm, both some more detailed pictures and questions raised. Thanks for bringing them to our attention.

The complete longship that is shown actually seems to be two of the smaller boats stuck together, which is going to confuse people (though show you what you can do). There's a close-up of what I believe to be the real longship where you can see the seem indicating that it is using mid-sections, and thus it's length can be varied similiar to the pirate ships.

I wish they had only hade the real shield style and used that exclusively. The horned helmet has removable horns, but the helmet is designed around the horns, so it will be somewhat obvious if you remove them. There's no clear, detailed view of any of the torso prints.

The mottled metallic look is confirmed. The gold helmet doesn't look to have the traditional "chrome" coating. I'm not sure what to make of it.

Looks like the Viking Longship set will have only 6 figures instead of the 9 or 10 we thought it would have.
Now that I see the Viking Fortress up close.....I actually liked the first version better!
The newer version has 2 catapults & some huge contraption thing on one side. It makes it look a bit weird.
At least we get some new weapons & armour/helmets.
Geez I hope Lego throws some beards in there at the last minute!
Vikings just wouldn't be Vikings without the beards!!
Oh well, guess we can't always get what we want :(

Edit: The big contraption thing on the Viking Fortress is another catapult!! That brings the total to 3 catapults!!!!
Lego went over board on this one!

I'm not sure that I'm crazy about the new helmets, armor, and weapons that have that rub-n-buff look. It looks a little mega-blocksish to this purist. But maybe that is just progress. I can imagine how the purists of the day probably scoffed at the new tiny minifigs back back in the 70's. :)

Hmmm...

There's alot to take in here. I',m overwhelmed!

On the positive side:

+ Vladek once again has his red armour, and oval shield :D !
+ Santis has a Gold Helmet! This may work very well with classic armour!
+ Rascus also appears to have two-toned armour
+ The Harry Potter ship has a new shield (looks like the Black Falcon shield in red & grey)!
+ 7019 has fewer bionicle bits than the prototype, and still includes a lot of pieces!
+ New weapons and armour.
+ The dragons are actually constructed differently (each one is unique).
+ 7018 still looks good (as does the new 7016 (the small ship)).

Unfortunately, there's some bad here as well.

- The only redeeming feature of the Harry Potter ship is the new shield!
- The smaller Harry Potter sets are ruined by the fact they are bley.
- The new "Rub and Buff" armour look really doesn't sit well with me.
- The newest version of 7019 is also the worst one yet.
- Fewer figs with 7018.

That's all for right now.

Later.

I really like these Viking sets, esepcially the large fort. High walls all around and no baseplate? It looks like Lego is trying to return to some classic ideas to me, which is a good thing.

Yeah, I like the fort too. It looks very big to me, and rich in parts, two bad things though:

The fig count is way to low, and I dont need three catapults!

The Viking fort definitely looked better when it was on blue water plates in those first pics ... even if it had way too many Bionicle pieces. But I'm not exactly planning on keeping it constructed the way Lego has it, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The dragons are a huge improvement over that weird Bionicle giant.

But I'm INCREDIBLY bummed about the Longship. It still looks amazing ... but they cheaped out and used the dragon head for the front of the boat. The brick constructed face on the older photos was incredible, ten times better. TWENTY times better.

I'll probably attempt to recreate the original, brick constructed dragon head motif. I'll use the dragon head that comes with it as a trophy on somebody's wall. Majisto's, maybe.

So it's kind of a bummer, but at least we're getting these babies ... I think a few new Pirate style boats, some sweet shields and axes, helmets and minifigs, dragons and palisade wall goodness is definitely worth it.

At any rate, they're cooler than Knight's Kingdom.

I want them all. Any inconsistencies, oddities and lame figures, gimmicks, and what not, can be fixed by me.

My thoughts exactly! :D

I agree with WB and LOL :D

And you can count me in that club. I have wanted Vikings for a very long time, and the drawbacks are minimal as far as I am concerned.

(If you really want beards order some from Red Bean. Thats what I intend to do. You can get a variety of styles and colors, and BAM there ya go. ;) )
