LEGO fires COO, takes new direction

Post by Bricksidge »

Lego Press Release
As a consequence of the situation, a significant change of strategy has been initiated. The LEGO Company will focus on the fundamental product idea, as represented by the LEGO brick and the values of the LEGO Brand. It is a timeless and universal idea, which the consumers confirm they value highly, as clearly indicated in 2003: In spite of the general decline in sales, sales of Make & Create, the core products, were more than doubled.
Yay!

I think this new direction for LEGO is great and the right approach. Hopefully it will help the company recover quickly.

Yes, but haven't they been telling us that this is what they are doing for the last 4 years? I mean, they have been saying that they are going back to the core values and such for a while now, and they don't seem to have gotten there.

True, But to fire the COO? I would think that takes commitment... But then again... Back to the waiting I guess. Buy what comes out and build what we can!

Better yet, a castle designer set. Now that would show us that they are committed to the castle line... I think someone suggested it this before and I may have even said it was unlikely to happen, but now that I have seen the rumored designer dragon, I would love to see a designer castle. It may not happen, but if it did, what a better world us castle heads would be living in.

Good new. I think they made the right choice. It's better for the customer to invest in quality than in quantity. If they work in less product they will have more time to design them and they will furnish us better quality product. :D

A question however. Does Lego consider Lego Castle as a good seller product. I hope they'll keep this line in product. Castle, Space and Town are more than 25 years lines. They are probably their best success.

now that would be very cool. As it is there are some decent sets in the designer and creator lines for pieces... but a castle designer set would sell out very quickly.
*counting pennies*
mmm thinking to myself "how many of these can I buy!"

Yeah, I suggested that castle designer set.

Anyway, what's this about a dragon? Do you mean the T-Rex, or is there also a dragon?

I'm glad to hear the creator/designer sets are selling well, that is probably my favorite stuff from 2003 and I was hoping to see more things like that in 2004.

If we are lucky, maybe the Knight's Kingdom stuff was one of the ex-vice president's ideas and will be replaced by real castle stuff soon.

If we are lucky, maybe they'll stop making so many useless molds and instead make fewer, better, molds.

If we are lucky, maybe LEGO will break even and stop their shelf space from shrinking. My biggest fear is that the copycat brands may eventually take away all of LEGO's shelf space, for that would mean the company is doomed.
