tell me...

Post by boses »

I was wondering, what is the most popular setting amongst castle builders,
not specific lines, like KK2 and HP, but where are you taken, each time you set yourself down and begin to build...

I often find myself imagining epic power struggles, the guardians of humanity making war with powers from the void of chaos...in other words...I get really into my building.

So I was wondering, just how deeply rooted are the concepts and ideas that guide your building, and how far do you let your imagination carry you?

Do you find yourself influenced more by books or other forms of media, and what effect do these have on your Lego creations???

Lastly, what is the most prominent impact Lego has had on your way of life, the way you see and expresss yourself in this world???

Considering this thread is over an hour old I think nobody understood what you just said. Except for me. I think.

When I build usually I'm thinking about a war between my good minifigs and my evil minifigs. For guys from other universes like KK2 or Lotr ect...

They just appear and gotto the faction that needs more men or they are similar i.e Royal Knights/Crusaders/Men of Gondor/Morcians ect... are on one side. Fright Knights/Bulls/goblins ect... are on the otherside.

If I build a moc it's for one faction to use against another.

I mostly build scenes from the books I write, and many of those are formatted for use in brikwars battles. So, to answer one of your questions, the ideas that guide my building are very deeprooted.

Going back to my books.... Even though my writing influences my building, it was actually Lego that first inspired the most basic details of my story. But it all grew too much to be even remotely possible for me to build, so I reversed my inpiration cycle. Now my writing consumes me (whenever I'm not on CC ), and if it had not been for Lego, I probably wouldn't have that.

Good topic, by the way! :D

Wow...that is a lot of questions. I have found that when I am building, most of the stories that I am imagining are of people out of the mainstream. Hermits, disinherited sons, exiles, scholars (not mainstream during the middle ages), secret societies, etc. I would say that my concepts and ideas about the world are pretty deeply rooted and that does affect my building. Is that what you meant? As for my imagination, I let it take me as far as it wants to. I have a very active imagination. Lots of ideas, stories, and weird things rolling around in there. I have been most influenced by books. My personal library is pushing 2000 volumes but my movie collection is probably around 35 dvds and most of those are for the kids. And lastly the impact Lego has had on my life. Well, most of the guys at work think I am slightly insane. Like one football fanatic said,"I used to play with Legos too, but I'm not six anymore." Seriously though, they keep me young. And when the real world get too scarey, messed up, out of control, and turned on its head, I can always go build my own world.

Josh

PS. One more thing, Lego has ingrained in me a sense that there is always another way to get something done. I just may not have thought of it yet.

I'm taken to a time where there aren't planes flying overhead or cars zooming buy, or even much in the way of paved roads. People live close to the land, they don't know what's beyond the next hill, and anything is possible (even if it isn't). There is no unearthly glow that people watch - they sing and dance and tell stories for entertainment. It's a different time, a different mindset, that I like to go to.

Im making a story, so everything has to go in there somewere.

Im only influenced by anime actually, the way to tell things and my magic system has its sources of inspiration everywhere. My characters however, are made from either characters from my dreams or just cool guys Ive thought would be cool to make. Man, the not-yet-shown guys' fighting styles are cool! 8) *spoil* spoil*

Of course, Vladek and The Sorceror and the other Lego characters are directly taken from the Lego universe.

I must say that I dont really have any "evil" army. Leaders are baddies while soldiers are religious, loyal, warmongering, desperate, defenders or just pissed off.

I cant say that lego has affected my life in more than its the main money-devourer.
If my book real book would be converted to lego... Dude, I would need better building skills... And NOTHING would be kept in its purist state... I promise...

Hmm...good questions. When I sit down to build a new MOC, I envision a building, not so much characters. I build the building, then sometimes I spend hours creating characters to suit the building. I would say that I'm most heavily influenced by Tolkien, and other builders. I typically don't get much into character developement when building Lego.

As to how Lego affects me, one thing I notice is that I always describe things in Lego colours. Things are "light blue" or "sand green," etc.
