Hey all,

Keep an eye on this gallery by chadzicz. He's in the midst of building what looks like it will be a very impressive keep. As a teaser, check out this great gatehouse:

So far, I'm not really that impressed with this MOC. Right now it looks like more of the same, though I do like how tall the gatehouse is. I'm sure my feelings toward this MOC will change as he builds more onto it, though.

On the contrary. I think the gatehouse is good because it's massive. And I believe he will build up a very tall fortress. Think about it, if the gatehouse is that big, what would be the proportion to the fortress inside?

HUGE

And I like the terrain, although he could use alot of foliage around those rocks. But that depends if the castle is on the sea, or in the lake....

So far, I believe it's on the road to greatness.

I saw this on brickshelf yesterday and was quite impressed. I can't wait for the finished product. I love the start he has with the gatehouse...

Other than the size, it does appear to be somewhat average for now; we'll see if that changes. There is one unique detail that I caught, though: did anyone else notice the skull built into the front of the gatehouse?

Hi there,

my friend back at Kostky.org, the Czech Lego Forum has notified me that you discuss my creation here. I am very glad you guys here noticed it and thanks for all the comments.

This is my first big MOC + it is in progress so it lacks a lot of things. Your comments are spot on:
1) the rocks do not look realistic - this will be done later when i fine-tune the details. For now i just need to fix the base (size + shape)
2) the gatehouse needed a little work as it was too tall for the small rock it was built upon. So i extended the 'rock base' + added side supports. Now looks more robust and balanced, i think
3) Average look - yep for the moment (as i am in the beginning of construction), but let's wait for the finished product  On the other hand, most of the castles i've seen on brickshelf are similar (dark gray rock base, gatehouse, light gray castle). But i'll try to spice it up with detail.
4) Size - the proportion of the gate and the main castle was not balanced, so i extended the 'rock base'. I need to do futher extension to get more space inside the keep

I already did some modifications yesterday, so check out my gallery (pls skip the lame old creations :D ) and let me know what you think of it.

thx

Those changes add to my theory that the castle is going to be

HUGE

And I like the seperation of the gatehouse and the main castle. Perhaps another gatehouse for the entry into the main castle?

And I think that you should build a smaller wall lining the edge of the rocks, just so you can layer your castle.

This is very good. I like how he did the gatehouse, it really gives "flavor" to the MOC [even if its not finished].

Hello Chadzicz, welcome to CC! I like how this keep is developing, very nice. That gatehouse is especially good. I also like how you've fortified the path leading up to the second gate. I can't wait to see more of this!

Much improved! I like the battlemented wall follwing the slope of the rock.

Looks really good, Really massive. It reminds me of Jojo`s Burg Falckenstein: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=148901. There is just one thing, the gate tower is build in another building style than the rest of the castle. I have to say I like the castle more than the gate tower. The gatebuilding (not the tower) is really good, I really like to see the complete castle when it is finished, but I think I have to wait a little wile for that
 .

yep, i took a great amount of inspiration from Jojo's lovely Falckenstein (i hope he does not mind  ) but the final creation will be completely different from his masterpiece. I will also change a lot of things in the end to make the keep look consistent (e.g. castle vs the tower style). as this is my first big moc, it will definitely take some time...
