Blanquefort Keep

Post by Ristridin »

Hey All,

I had some time, so I made this small keep. I don`t have that many white and gray so I combined it. The landscaping isn`t finished jet. My parents are on vacation and the took the camera`s with them, so I could only use a 2 MP camera, but I`ll hope it will be clear enough.

I really like the technique you used for the railings on the bridge. I may have to steal that in the future. :)

This is another great keep, Ristridin. I like the color; you don't see many white castles, and even if this one is only half-white, it's nice to see a change. The use of those pieces (I don't really know what to call them) for the railings is nice, it gives it a sort of beginning of the decline of Middle ages-bare beginnings of Renaissance time period feel (ugh, too many 'of's in that sentence). The tree growing out of it is cool too, I've always loved trees growing out of castles. Everything else is great as well.

Nicely done! I like your use of the railings on the bridge and the castle, this gives it a kind of unity. The angled wall portion is cleverly worked into the rock, almost seamlessly. Impressive!

My one complaint is that the back of the keep suffers a bit from the Big Gray Wall Syndrome. (or Big Gray and White Wall Syndrome). Also, the back window is missing a shutter.

that`s true, but I think it looks wors in the picture, becouse the keep isn`t so high, an about the shutter; I can`t find it  :P

This may be a strange thing to post, but the first image seems sort gloomy; like one of those places that make you feel that you shouldn't be in there at all, and the only thing you can think of is leaving. Pretty ridiculous on my part really  .
Besides that the bridge has an interesting way of being built and the 45 degree angle wall looks very well done.

I agree with nazgul. I look, and I see two guards, a shadowed door, a tree that hides some of the towers features, and two black-barred top windows. It feels like there's something lurking about It's like a morrowind effect, when you aproach a tower, but you get uneasy all of a sudden, and you just wanna leave.

Nice construction, but looks a little cramped. Neat bridge, all you need to do is add some 1x2 slopes where it changes hieght.

If you were going for gloomy, which I doubt, but in any case, add some ripples in the water with flat blue pieces. Make then calm and spaced or raging and close together. Or you could go for mysterious with them being a mix of close and far.
I ow it to wunztwice for directing me here.

Hey all, thanks for the tips and comments :D .

I am changing the bridge now, I am making it longer, with a wooden draw-bridge and a small guard house. I use black for the wood, becouse I don`t have enough brown for it :(.
I will make foto`s when it is finished.
I think the criepy looking is coused by the camera . But mabe that effect is just good, to frighten the enemies.
