Oriental Bridge

Post by DARKspawn »

Hey again guys. Sorry I don't mean to spam but I have finished my bridge & would love your opinions on it.

There have been some amazing entries into this catagory :D I just want to say that I am just happy to be apart of this contest & stand alongside such accomplished masters of our craft.

I haven't decided the best pics for the contest yet either.

This MOC is my first serious attempt at landscaping &, of course, I owe the idea of the river to John L (J1A3L5).

It's current working title is Mizu Megami Ichidou - which according to my online japanese translater means Water Goddess Shrine. Here is the little story to go with it -

Ronin Kesshi has traveled far & faced many dangers to reach the legendary Sensai Soushou who lives the life of a hermit at the Mizu Megami Ichidou. As he approaches the shrine he finds one more challenge awaiting him - a duel with the ever cruel & wicked ninja Kanjin. As Kesshi & Kanjin join in battle, while Sensai Soushou awaits the outcome. Meanwhile Kanjin's viscous Ninja band plan an underhanded ambush ...

Awesome... 8)

I don't mean to detract from the bridge part of the MOC at all, but I the things that grabbed me the most was the subtle (and very clever) way you've got done the style of the roof on the oriental building, and the reverse arch piece (are they called that?) on the tree is something I would never have thought of.

The bamboo canes are simple and just perfect.

The bridge itself is cool (I'm stuck in the rut of making bridges GREY all the time), and I love the Crouching Tiger style wire-work minifigs in combat/training over the bridge.

Unfortunately the whole ninja era of Lego passed me by (must have been in a Mini Dark-age at the time) and now I know the fun I've missed!

WOW.... I'm speechless.
Of all the entries for the CCCIV bridge contest so far, this one (assuming you will enter :D ) stands out, due to the colour scheme, and the excellent roof of the building.
Very very japanese.. I like it very much :)
I was going to post my 2nd entry very soon, but after seeing this I'm kinda thinking twice about it :) Good job :)

Impresive. Most impressive. I almost saw Jet Li fightin someone on that bridge! Very good attention to detail. The red is perfectly blended in with the rest of the scene.
Beware the day my soul is unleashed. Not even Megablocks itself will rival its fire!

Awesome bridge!
The red frame with black walk way looks really good and goes well together.
The small shrine atop the rocks looks authentic enough and I like the use of those little viking horns.
The landscaping looks excellent, overall its great moc!

This is a definite contender in the bridge category.
Good luck!

Although I'm tempted to say there is a bit too much going on in this scene, with the old man meditatively putting laterns into the river while ninjas swarm the bridge and two combatants fly into the air... I think that such a criticism would miss the point of this MOC altogether. (I read your sub-story, and it's really cool, that was just my thought upon looking at the MOC)

First of all, the old man and the lanterns look REALLY cool - it's a great little touch and looks good by the river and red bridge supports.

The bridge itself is really well built - both attractive to the eye for colors and architecture. Not to mention the cool structure at the end, the roof there is sweet. I like how you used the black cones on each end of the roof for an ornamental feel. It's about right for a bridge, I'm not sure, but I feel they wouldn't have a lot of fancy stuff on the roof of a bridge gatehouse.

Finally, the two flying figures are cool! I never could figure out what to do with that translucent piece (I got mine from a SW pack), but this is a great idea~

Great work overall, I'd say~

 Thanks for the kind words guys :D

I think this is the best thing I have created to date, but the truth is I owe it all to discovering this community - I have learned so much in my short time here & my building has improved heaps as a result (if I do say so myself)

Thanks again :)

This is great! The ninja series has always been my favorite. Dont mean to sound repetative but the roof looks very nice as does the snot water. Awsome job.

Very nice. You added a lot of great details. Basically, I just echo everybody on other matters. Great Job!

I like it, I like it alot! All the building elements (ie bridge, etc) look great, very clean construction. The fig posing is well done and the lanterns are an awsome little touch!

Wonderful! This says Japanese castle-era all over it. You really do feel that Richard Chamberlain could come walking along any moment. Ditto all the priase above. The one suggestion I would offer is on the river. The snop forward approach is very nice, but you've left the baeplate studs visible. Refer back to John's castle to see how hid hid them. I think the last row might have studs up with a tile on top, but I can't recall. This is a great MOC.

Wow, the bridge competition is shaping up to be the feature category. Good luck.

I really like the roof, on the main building. It is detailed very well, as is the rest of the MOC, but unlike a few entries I've seen, the building doesn't steal the focus from the bridge itself, which is good. You seem to have found a perfect balance. Good luck in the contest.

This is a really great MOC. the roof is just fantastic! I might try to copy that ones. You`re landscaping is good, especialy for the first serious attemt.
I think you have a great chance of winning this catogory. (but its mostly for the fun ofcourse.)
I never liked eastern MOCs much, but this really atracts my interrest.
Keep it up.

Thanks again, all. I am glad that it has been well received even though it is not strictly castle. I wanted to do something different though (as you have seen with my other potential entries lol).

Looking back it's hard to beleive that this MOC all started with challenging myself to build a realistic oriental roof for a vig that never happened ;)
