I noticed on the box it says 1:300. So if we were to buy 300 of these Eiffel Tower sets and stand them on top of each other vertically, then they would reach the actual height of the Eiffel Tower!!! Amazing!!
Not just as tall, but life-sized. That would be a heck of a Brickfest project! :D

Steve
Nah, it'd take a lot more than 300 sets to recreate the full thing life-sized. Remember, as you grow in length, width and depth, the volume grows even larger.

If you had a 1:300 scale box, to recreate the original box, sure it'd be 300 boxes tall, but the volume would be closer to 27,000,000 boxes :) (assuming the box was solid).

You tell 'im, Tony!

As others have said, it does look a bit too blocky at the base for my taste. However, it does capture the shape well enough for its size. I most likely will not be getting this (I still need to get Cafe Corner!), but I'm sure this set will make a lot of fans happy. Great job, LEGO!

As always, all other themes are parts-packs for Castle.

This thing comes with 11 of those huge tiles (8x16??). Wow.

THats what I'm talkin 'bout! Parts packs they are. Wow Lego must have got the message, huh? Making set we actually want to buy! What's gotten into them!

I doubt I'll get this one, not because I wouldn't enjoy it, but because it won't fit into the already strechted Lego 2007 budget.

It is a nice looking structure of the Eiffel Tower. Even though it does look a little blocky (or stepped), I think it is a great representation of the Tower, using bricks. It could have looked smoother, if Lego had created some sort of NEW curved piece. But then we would complained about the NEW piece instead.

At least this way, we can use the Bley to create wonderful Medieval buildings instead.

I am wondering whether this creation is the start for more world famous buildings like the Sydney Opera House, Big Ben and the Taj Mahal.

"Available Now" on S@H in Europe

Post by Brickzone »

A heads up, this set is now on S@H for Ireland €214.99, Germany €229.99, UK £149.99 and others as "available now". US has it listed at $199.99!! But US it's preorder to ship by 31st July.

Not interested in it myself I must say.

Amazing how much cheaper it is for the US ($199.99 is ~€147!!), and yet again they seem to randomly pick Europe prices - this time Ireland is cheapest, then UK, then Germany. Quite often Ireland or UK is dearest.

I may buy it, but the price is a little steep...
Steve, let me preface this post by saying I'm not targeting you, just AFOLs in general.

Isn't this and sets like Market Street and Cafe Corner exactly what we've been asking for from LEGO for several years now? Realistic, (in some instances) fan-created, parts-intensive models? To ask for stuff like this and then buy Castle sets (which are by fan admission much more poorly designed) for the minifigs, which are just as easy to Bricklink, gives LEGO the message that we don't as a consumer base know what we want. To keep asking for realistic, fan-created, parts-intensive models without understanding that these kinds of sets cost more money is a rather ignorant approach to requesting sets.

I also understand that not everyone has much of a LEGO budget, but if people would buy a Market Street or Eiffel tower instead of 5+ Chess sets or 10 jousts or whatever we'd continue getting better sets.

The Eiffel Tower is just not to my taste and too large a proposition for me (I don't think I'd ever wish for so many grey bricks for one). I'd like to get Market Street and Café Corner if I've a month where I don't buy much else; they are works of art, inspirational (both inspired and inspiring others to build great creations), and great brick collections.

However, I will freely admit that I've far more anticipation towards getting the Castle 07 line in August when it comes out here in Ireland! This is "Classic Castle" after all, and they may be new sets and not quite as perfect as some would like, but there's a nice dollop of traditional building in them! And the minifigs are really cool :) I like to think too that my purchasing Castle 07 sets *will* be sending Lego the right message :) If I'd been posting Dear Lego messages in the last couple of years during KK2 rather than being in my Dark Ages, I would have been looking for a lot of what Castle 07 delivers! Waiting for Castle 07 to come out here makes me feel like a kid again!

Looks like a good set. Though I have a feeling it might not sell will, seeing how most models don't and the current surplus of good sets.

I am very interested in this set, It comes with a TON of bley bricks and I need to increase my bley collection. Does anybody know if this set has been reveiwed by any clastley folks with regards to parts? I found the parts listing on that Euro-Bricks review but sadly I can't really make out the numbers. Can anybody tell me if there an online inventory of this set's parts that might be a little easier to read?

Bricklink has the inventory for 10181, although it's pending approval:

The scale of the tower is 1:300, does anyone know what a minifig scale is?

Anyway the more current subject:

I couldn't agree more! I'm thrilled with the new sets that Lego is producing for the 14+ crowd. I am planning on buying these sets because I think they are very nice and also to continue to encourage TLC to design and sell more.

I'd be interested to see what their sales expectations are for these very expensive sets. They have had the pricey starwars collector series for a while, hopefully the city themed Market Street, Corner Cafe, and Eifel Tower will perform to their expectations (Corner Cafe must have done reasonably well or they wouldn't have introduced the 2 new sets).
