How about get one or two pre Christmas and wait for the sale after to stock up on? That way everyone is happy?

Just what I was thinking.

If they run out and therefore don't have any to discount after Christmas, never mind. I'll still have the set(s) I bought (and opened) when they became available.

I thought about getting the Bellvile advent calender this past X-Mas too, but thought I'd wait for the sale. They never even went that far. They were sold out in early December. I highly doubt LEGO will have enough Castle Advent calenders to go around after December 1st. My suggestion is: get them before Thanksgiving Day (USA). Or sooner if budget allows. The general 2008 Castle assortment will be easier to get over a longer time period than this coming calender will be. At $25 a set, they are going to go FAST.

Please pardon the noob question, but what exactly are these advent calendar things? What's in them?

I've only ever seen them one time (last December at a Lego store), and I still wasn't even sure what they were from looking at the box. I've never seen them at any other store.

Basically, they come with a few figures and some tiny little models. We're not sure what's in the Castle one, other than what we can tell from the box picture.

Here's the box pic mentioned by Athos (also posted by him in the OP).

It's a Christmas tradition. There are 24 little compartments, and you open one each day starting December 1st. It's like a countdown to Christmas and each day you get a new little scene or gift.

advent calendar

I'm really excited for the minifigs and everything, but I'm just very curious as to what kinds of special accessories they will give us that are Castle-themed. THe City advent calendars have been pretty creative in the past.. so I wonder what goodies we'll get -- blacksmith stuff? stuff for an inn? food and stuff for the peasant type people? accessories for the witch like a cauldron?

can't wait to find out :)

I like catapults as long as they are good ones. Would like to see more fortifications. Seems like lately lego has done less and less of them. Viking had 1, though it only had 2 boats... strange. This year for Castle only one and it is a tower... LAst year though they had two and the mine so I guess it is off set some.

Hard to get a whole fortification in a advent calendar I suppose :D

I think the mine counts as a building for 2008 also. It's only the US that got it late last year, and with Dwarves/Orcs/Troll it is part of the 08 castle rather than 07 undead castle.

That is true. so one fortification.... base like set. Still seems fortifications are lacking. I'd love to see an troll/orc base some time and more undead, human and dwarf ones.

I don't know weather people are still in doubt about this set or not, but I have proof it is real. Or at least that the jester is... A link from the Brothers Brick Blog will bring you to a Toy Fair gallery where there was a Harley Quinn figure on display, sporting the same jester hat!
