Wal-Mart has some good sales today
It worked. Just handed them my receipt and said I wanted to buy it back at the lower price. Got 40$ back!Tyrant wrote:Definately let us know if that works.Username wrote:I was just going to tell them to price check it and buy it again.KingDavid wrote:Just return it and hang out and wait for them to put it back on the shelf and go buy it again.

So, basically the idea is just take them the set, with the receipt (or just the receipt and no set?) and return it. Then have them price scan it and buy it back right there? Just want to make sure I fully understand the idea before I attempt it (after I find my receipts). Did you say anything in particular or just tell them upfront what you were wanting to do?Username wrote:It worked. Just handed them my receipt and said I wanted to buy it back at the lower price. Before this thread turns into a "How to" article for purchasing/returning, let me add this set found today at Walmart: 5522- Golden Anninversary Set - $25.00.

I did this today as well with 2 KKS. I took the two sets in, with the receipt to customer service, and said I noticed the price had gone down and asked them to do a price adjustment. She said okay, I can do a return and have you repurchase them at the new price. They did it all on one receipt with no qualms or questions. You probably still need to have the original set unopened to do this, though. Thanks for leading the way on this, Username!Tyrant wrote:So, basically the idea is just take them the set, with the receipt (or just the receipt and no set?) and return it. Also: After doing this, I checked the LEGO section again, and they had *another* KKS on the shelf! My advice is keep checking your local Walmart every couple days, (assuming you know they have carried it at some point in the past) because they seem to be finding more and more of these things and putting them on the shelves!

One more thing that bears repeating - I have been to two Walmarts where only the Indiana Jones sets are marked with the clearance price. The Castle sets are nicely organized on their shelves with the original price. The sets have rung up as the sale price at both. So, at those Walmarts, the Castle sets are not exactly flying of the shelves. It will be interesting to see if the prices are reduced further in the future. Personally, I still can't go for the Troll ship at $64 but at $40 I'd bite.
Finally, it is interesting that they are trying to clear inventory of these sets, as they're not discontinued by LEGO, and there are no Castle sets in the pipline until Summer. But then, I am seeing Pirates, Power Miners, and city construction show up, so I guess something has to go.

I've heard rumors about new Castle sets being released in the summer, as well. June, to be exact. But like I said, those are just rumors and may be completely inaccurate. Furthermore, LEGO has sent me numerous copies of a sales ad where they clearly stated that the release date on the Medieval Market Village was Jan 1, 2009 and then they released it on Dec 25, 2008. So maybe we'll get new Castle sets earlier than we had anticipated.

I went in an tried to see if they could just do a price adjust but apparently price adjusts are only good within 7 days of purchase.puddleglum wrote:I did this today as well with 2 KKS. So I guess you need the set and they have to do a full return and resale.
Unfortunately, I purchased quite a few 7094's so I will now have to check to see if I can just bring one in or if I have to bring in all that remain.
My receipt was from 11-30-08. I just asked to return them and repurchase them for the lower price. I brought in the KCS sets and receipt.Pluto wrote:

I stopped at one of the Wal marts near me today and they told me that they could not resell them to me if I returned them. They said they had to restock them. I thought that sounded pretty absurd since me rebuying them on the spot would save them trouble. It is obviously a work around price adjustment, but I don't see what the problem is if they are willing to take teh return in the first place (which they are). I have 5 of them that I have been able to track down my receipts. I have 1 other (and one from Target, though that would involve removing the tag and probably be morally questionable to some) but I can't find the receipt for it. If this works I guess I will be fortunate that I haven't gotten around to doing anything with them yet (they're still sealed). Another Wal Mart I contacted seemed to be at least willing to give me the time of day. I'll be trying them in the next day or two.
I tried again, this time at a different Walmart. I tried to return and repurchase (not just ask for a price adjustment) and they could not. Much like Tyrant, they said that it needed to be purchased from the shelves.
Much like customer service in with any company; the experience is different from store to store and employee to employee. It's the luck of the draw.

in theory you can't return it for original purchase price once the item is clearanced. check the store policy leaflet. i had to go to the manager on a dispute one time and that's what she told me.Pluto wrote:I tried again, this time at a different Walmart. but i agree it's the luck of draw... some (most) employees aren't interested in keeping company rule. they rather help a fellow citizen stick it to the man.

even if you need to return it, i would advise returning it late in the evening (about 1 hour (before) closing). then return to the store again in the morning to repurchase.

if you are working and the $40 is worth your time, return the sets friday night and repuchase saturday morning.

Setting aside the issue of a price adjust/repurchasing, Walmart's policy on returns is quite clear. If you have a receipt, most merchandise can be returned for the full purchase price up to 90 days after the purchase, regardless of what the current price or clearance status of that item is.natelite wrote: in theory you can't return it for original purchase price once the item is clearanced. check the store policy leaflet. i had to go to the manager on a dispute one time and that's what she told me.
